Players we have made a profit/loss on

I think we made a loss when we sold Anelka to Fenerbache.

That was a disgraceful bit of business. £7 million was it? For a top centre forward who was in his prime. Even bolton outdid us big tiem with Anelka. They knew he was going so they signed him up on a new contract and sold him for a decent price not long after.

Dead right.

I think we are probably the only club in football not to have made a profit on Anelka.

Pound for Pound Paul Stewart was excellent business by the wigmeister

Bought for 200k and sold for £1.7m - dont forget gazza was only 500k more.....

Depends how you define a profit. Seems a silly thing to say but when we buy a player, we write off the contract value over the life of the initial contract. So if we pay £20m for someone on a 4-year contract, we write off £5m a year to Player Amortisation in the P&L account. If we sell that player part way through his contract then the profit/loss is based on the outstanding balance rather than the original outlay.

In the above example, selling the player after 2 years for £12m would give us an accounting profit of £2m. If hte player stays for the length of his contract and we renew it then any money received is pure profit.

Does Stephen Ireland count?
or is it just players we bought then sold?

/edit and Neds for that matter. In fact all academy players!

Did we make a little money on Danny Allsop? Seem to remember we bought him for £10k and maybe sold him for £50k, or is that just wishful thinking?
