Players who might improve us

We can't mention him, as we had a 19 year old kid playing next to him two years ago, who was better than him, & still hasn't had a game for City.
Denayer wasn't better than Van Dijk at Celtic, they were both very good. Van Dijk's had 3 solid seasons and has started this season unbelievably. He won't be cheap but he's been a level above our defenders this season, both in distribution and defending.

He regularly clreared up Van Dijk's fuckups. And yes, they both were very good.

But it wasn't Denayer who was blundering around getting sent off at the San Siro. He was the one holding it together. And on other occasions. Van Dijk better in the air & the physical stuff.

We should have signed Van Dijk as there was no risk for the money when you consider how much others cost. Then we would have had a backup partnership, one big strong, one quick on the turn & clever. Both pretty fast, both good footballers.

Awful planning.

I don't rate Van Dijk at all. I just can't see it. Looks like a defender more than is one. Jon Stones lite if you ask me.

He's great if he actually gets to the ball but his positioning is woeful. Constantly out of position or switched off, but uses his pace and strength to recover. When he was at Celtic it was even more obvious because he was half asleep, just bullying out of shape Scottish players, then getting horrendously exposed whenever they played in Europe.

I can see why he wasn't hugely chased by teams as he had very much the Jean-Alain Boumsong look about him in Scotland, but he has at least done a better job of staying switched on at Southampton, but there system helps a lot with that. Everyone looks good in their defence

I was watching that Southampton gave vs. pool and watching Van Dijk, but found myself quite impressed with Cedric their right back. He's quick and good with the ball.

He's been one of best in the league for past season and a half. Your last point is good one though, Southamptons set up is always a strong one. Maybe he wouldn't be as effective in our system.

I would like for us to continue to stockpile young talents. Pep loves working with younger players because they're easier to coach and mold. I'd try and go after:

CM- Mahmoud Dahoud
LB- Kieran Tierney
RB- Lukas Klostermann
RW- Julian Brandt
CB- Jairo Riedwald

I'd go for Thiago Silva. (in Jan)

Looks like Kompany isn't going to be able to stay fit and T.Silva's contract runs out in the summer.

Still a top class CB and good on the ball
