Sadly, Valerei Bojinov in most recent times, (co-owed by Fiorentina and Juve and United used buy him guaranteed for £28m unless you cheated and got in there first)
From the mid-90's CM games, Chris Armstrong used to be a world beater, whereas in real life at Palace he was just a good striker.
On the really old ones, like the first one I think it was, there was a player called Mukhadim Mukhadamijev who would guarantee you 30+ a season. I don't know what he was like in real life but I don't recall anyone decent buying him!
I actually saw Nii Lamptey play for the Villa a couple of times, and remember him being distinctly average. Ron Atkinson said he could be the new Dwight Yorke!
I started playing the original CM on the old Commodore Amiga when you needed to fill the scores in for the codes to start a new game. I remember taking Luton close to the title but just being pipped, and qualifying them for the UEFA Cup. Paul Telfer was quite a player if I recall correctly, and Joey Beauchamp from West Ham was a good signing.
Later, when Eidos started making it, I always used to sign Gareth Jelleyman and Mathew Etherington from Peterborough, and later Simon Davies from Posh was in my title winning City side, spearheaded by Joe Healy who I brought in from a Belgian side. Bizarrely, I took Belgium to the World Cup semi-finals with the likes of Toni Brogno and Gataen Engelbert.
Am I the only one who used to nip downstairs to make a brew and do a pre-match press conference while the kettle was boiling?
