Players you didn’t realise how good they were or appreciated them until they left.

Gordon Smith.
Terrific player, stylish and creative. Our promotion winning season 84/85 he was top scorer from midfield with 13 goals (no penalties).
Truly appreciated by my good self but not by many others because of his cup final ''miss'' in the last minute against the rags in 1983. But missed by many after he left....

Ian Bowyer. He ran like he had two left feet and looked totally ungainly.

He had a few decent games but was never really appreciated by the support at City. Brian Clough made him a world beater at Forest.

Stan Bowles was a similar case.

Mahrez was one of my favourite players when he was at City. So many people held that penalty miss at Anfield against him for years. Chipped in with so many under the radar goals, now none of our wingers have a goal in them
He also never missed a game through injury. As you say many just had it in for him after that Anfield game.

If you didn’t appreciate mahrez then i dont think football is for you. Mahrez was a truly elite winger
