Please don't shout at me but can we please do...

Have a look at the technical forum for the answer ChuckleBrother-FeedsTheGoat.

I agree it's cheesy. And the derby thing was a flop IMO, not nearly enough to make it a spectacle. It's not likely to be that big a game anyway and we could have already qualified by then and play our second string, as could Juve.

The Singing Section coming up with some new songs would be a starting point...

These people who come on here who appear to be obsessed with flares, streamers, confetti canons and wotnot make me laugh out loud. I don't know why they don't just go back to Disneyland or Whacky Warehouse or wherever they come from and leave those of us who want to watch a football match to it!

I'm all for people thinking POSITIVE, esp where the atmosphere is involved, as it's shite, 90% of the time - so rather than belittle and take the piss out of it, come up with something original yourself.

Or maybe you're happy with it being like a fuckin morgue.

I've done my bit in my time, mate. You know the open days? My idea... in the days when the fans' forum really was a fans' forum. Remember the memorabilia exhibition? That was an idea Tommy Muir and I came up with in the beer garden at The George & Dragon; have a look in the bumf that was printed for it if you bothered to go. Oh, and the loyalty points scheme? Yep, you've guessed it! That was mine too; the club had to have their arms twisted into even trying this, never mind implementing it! Not that they'd admit it now, mind.

Any original ideas you've had that you want to share with us?

That's very impressive, without doubt - granted, and no, I've had no idea's, I just try and vocally back the team for 90 minutes and try not too moan too much.

But we are talking about original ideas in improving the atmosphere - it's not all to my taste either but let them throw a few idea's around, instead of coming across as dour and defeatist, that's all.

Fair enough and thanks for an honest response.

There is a problem admittedly with the atmosphere, but songs, chants and atmosphere in general have always evolved naturally. There are too many people trying to guarantee an atmosphere and, of course, there are no guarantees in football or in life either. I suspect there are many people who simply want to watch the match and don't want to be railroaded into getting involved in some kind of sideshow. It never works, and the fact that different parts of the old grounds housed different kinds of supporters who chose to watch the match and show their support in different ways - from the flask and tartan blanket brigade in the old Platt Lane to those who made the noise in the Kippax and everyone else in between.

The clubs or, more likely, the League have to take their share of the blame too. Every game's presented in the same way: the presentations at the beginning, the handshakes, the endless photographs. There's only the national anthem missing from the new egalitarian stadia.

I suspect most people were happy when a bare bulb went on in the tunnel and the ripple that started opposite, in the middle of the Kippax, became a roar as the teams came out.

Maybe I'm just getting old but razzmatazz belongs at the circus, not at a football match.

AFTER READING SOME OF THE LATER COMMENTS ON THIS THREAD AND THE 2 PRIVATE MESSAGES I have had sent somehow to my phone, I can't believe they would be from any of the blues that helped me arrange the TT at the Derby, although I did give my number out to a fair few people I don't believe it was any of them. They came across as 'top fans' with City at interest, but if the 2 of you or if it was only one of you want to meet me at Sunderland tomorrow and explain your comments I will more then happy to meet you face to face. Come on here and tell me what you really think, but if thats what you think of someone who at least fu@king trys to do something even at my age its sad. With that in mind I shall no longer try to improve what is mostly a shit atmosphere at home by wasting my time and 'MONEY' So who ever sent the messages grow up and fu@k off.

bring back the bananas and just sing your hearts out.

fulham turned juve over last yr so we should at least match them.
I think salzburg will give us a game as well.

Unfortunately that noise you speak of died with all seater stadia. Anyway, flags, scarves and flares etc have always been a part of the great English football atmosphere, especially on the 'big european nights'. Stop being such a wet fart.

No it didn't.

Big games still get big atmospheres.

I'm not being "a wet fart" (haven't heard that in decades).

I just think all this inflatables/manufactured stuff should be left to the likes of Accrington Stanley. It's small time. Cheesy.

In a big game the atmosphere will look after itself.

For the record, I don't even think this will be that big a game. The big games will come at the end of the tournament. We might get 35,000 or so.

But all clubs just sing and make noise in England when a big game is on, surely you want the club to stand out?
