have a friend who has a blocked toilet and he tells me it has been like that for 18months, i have tryed everything, plunged it, used chemicals. its a cast iron soil pipe with no access point. i think the only way to get to the block is to take the toilet out and rod it. However the toilet is like 40 years old and is cemented onto the soil pipe. i am thinking that if i try and chissel the toilet off it will break the soil pipe. he told me he wants a new plastic soil pipe and toilet but as im knew to the trade i would like some opinions for future thanks.

regards

blockage more than likely in manhole .break cast iron pipe about 12inches from the base very carefully mind using a good hack saw and tap it with a hammer put a 4inch plastic collar on and then you can use plastic pipe and fittings no problem

cut through with metal blade in angle grinder

Is the toilet syphonic as you say it is 40yrs old?

When you flush it dos it make growling sound?
If it is syphonic then for the time and cost of getting it fixed you can get a new one from B&Q

If it is not any of the above the cut a 1in line in the soil stack at about knee hight (and stand well back)IF water comes out then it is going to need jetting. Most firms charge about £100 to clear it.But there my be further problems (broken rest bend, roots, collapsed drain) the list go`s on
