I would go for either Aranguiz or Koke from the ones you named if we have to go with an alternative.
I think if we offered Atletico a high enough amount we could get Koke. Veratti probably not.

I'd love for us to have Pogba, but if the numbers just get too far away on him and it keeps us from strengthening elsewhere?
Can't say I've seen a lot of Xhaka, but the little I did see he looked very impressive. 22 years old, also.
I think even tolmie speculated that we might be better using all that money in three places. Decent CM alternative with upside plus upgraded fullback position on both sides. I've no idea if Monchengladbach would sell Xhaka or if you could get something worthwhile done at left back, for example. But how in the fuck could it be more of a pain in the ass than dealing with Juventus and Mino?

Moutinho must be settled at Monaco because you never hear his name come up. He's not one for the future but a quality player i'd certainly have in our side if it were possible. I just don't see Koke as realistic right now, that's too big a transfer to ignite at this point in the transfer window. Id certainly have Nainggolan or Pjanic but again couldn't imagine Roma selling them now.
Realistically, we put all our eggs in the Pogba basket. I'm not critical of that, I think it's a sensible move and if it doesn't come off I wouldn't complain. But we just haven't heard enough about alternative options to imagine anyone of serious quality being realistic with just a few weeks left in the window.

We don't necessarily need a box to box as an alternative. If we buy someone like Fabinho who can defend very well, then Yaya/Fernandinho can just play forward.
In terms of playing style, probably the closesnt alternative would be William Carvalho, but he's wildly inconsistent. His release clause is around 35 million quid IINM.

Veratti is the best box to box midfielder in the world imo, it would take breaking the transfer record to even get PSG to consider selling him.
If we don't get Pogba there really isn't a top class like for like alternative available so I would rather we signed a top quality DM than spunk £50m+ on a second rate panic buy.

Oh no......you didn't mention Isco did you...?I'd chase Isco, I know his defensive work rate is lacking but he's a great player nonetheless and Pelle has worked with him before
