Points of Blue Meeting - Wed 09.11.2011

What immediately struck me was the claim that one of the stewards in the footage wasn't on duty on the day of the game, so Fletcher said he believed he'd been "edited in".

Surely someone took him to task on a comment as patently ridiculous, as offensive as this?

As PB said, stinks of them trying to conceal something, all playing the 'none the wiser' card. Pretty disgusting in all honesty considering what transpired.

New footage of the incident (the original now has 105,000 views);

In the next clip, an Asian or mixed race steward (hard to be certain due to the quality of the footage) wearing a hat can clearly be seen throwing a punch at a fan at the beginning of the video, in the resulting melee another steward throws a few punches and receives a few before GMP's cavalry role in;

But that all went unnoticed in our ground, with state of the art CCTV covering every corner of the stadium and with all the other matchday staff being none the wiser, and Fletcher as head of the stadium safety was completely unaware of what was caught in the above footage.

You can guarantee that if Skashion hadn't recorded the initial video, Fletcher would've claimed there'd been no such trouble at the Villa game and it the old bloke's 'ejection' was handled correctly and fairly.

He has a lot to answer for. PB, as someone who witnessed the entire event, and after watching the above footage, your thoughts - please?

Would you be willing to raise this with the club? I'll be raising it with the FSF.

Watching that second video makes me feel sick, not only the actions of the stewards, but the reactions of many fans in that video. Disgusting behaviour from both parties, glad I sit well away from this nonsense.

I went to the POB last night to specifically raise the issues of what happened mainly at the Villa Home game.

I had to rush from work but got there around 10mins late, and as soon as I got in it seemed this issue was about to be wrapped up, so although slightly unprepared in my delivery of my agenda I did question the practice of ShowSec Staff.

I explained everything I had seen, which corresponds with video footage.

The main guy that came across as overly-aggressive was the white male with the brown gelled hair, trimmed tash and what many described on here as a slight Gary Neville look-a-like...
He initially trampled over seating to get to the man who was evicted, this wasn't needed and his behaviour changed the atmosphere.
Eventually when the supporter was taken onto the Aisle, many showSec staff were on this aisle and I witnessed this guy throwing punches.
Yes I did see a City Fan throw a punch, this was as my interpretation of law stands was in Self-Defence.... Many ShowSec staff were being aggressive and one would fear for their own safety.... Even more so when one ShowSec member of staff begins to start attacking.

Anyway i spoke with Mark Logan from ShowSec after the meeting privately and gave my full account of this incident, I also described fully what this guy looked like.

He has promised me to have a member of ShowSec staff come to me at the Newcastle match and allow me to Point out this guy.
He took my seat details btw.

Now either he was just saying this or showsec staff will actually approach me, but saying this the guy may not even be there anymore for me to single out.

Or what I feel will happen is SS will attempt to evict me, for speaking out against them.

That's you targeted now Steve, should be funny watching them attempt to do a bit of control and restraint on you though (;-)

I've got to say though, it does anger me that the club, or by extension at least via Peter Fletcher, would try to pass this off as a non-incident.

There are clear examples of stewards assaulting fans in the above footage, and numerous eyewitnesses who have stated to witnessing such assaults.

Peter Fletcher however, as head of security, the man who sees and hears everything, has access to the eyes and ears of his stewards and staff on the ground, not least every minute of footage from every one of our state of the art CCTV cameras, claimed to have been completely unaware of such trouble until it was raised by a supporter directly to him on Wednesday night.

Even going as far as saying that he believed the footage in the original clip had been edited to include a steward who wasn't there.

If it didn't anger me I'd laugh about it.

Taking us for a bunch of daft cunts, hoping it'll all blow over.

Showsec, and Fletcher have a case to answer, and answer it they will.

I was gutted I missed the meeting. On second thoughts and after reading the minutes, I'm glad I didn't waste my time.

What is the point of these meetings if the club and it's employees are going to spin the same old s*** time after time.

Exactly.

PS. It's easy. Hold your hands up and admit you've made mistakes. Learn by them and make sure it doesn't appen again.

Did anyone ever find out what was the result of the club's meetings with the old bloke, what this 'compromise' was?

JMW I think that covers it well.
I would say that it was said that 7000 replies were received from 35 000 sent out for the South stand survey. 68% of respondents suggested another trial i.e. 4760,
That is only 13.6 % of those surveyed, and only 11.2% of the 42 326 reported attendance. No wonder they used the 68% of respondents line.
Whilst you are correct that one can very easily use statistics to justify anything one wishes, and often in a very persuasive fashion, the club then said that the surveys weren't the only thing they use to inform decisions, and then went on to explain precisely why it wasn't practical or economical to move them permanently, especially in the face of such a largely meaninglessthing as an internet survey.

The words "it" "rest" "a" and "give" come to mind.

PS didn't they do precisely that in most of the cases? Or maybe I wasn't reading selectively enough

Should be interesting to see how they explain away the reduction in portion sizes.

The gentleman wants to keep things private which is understandable.
