Peter Schmeichael is actually a polish citizen. He only took up Danish citizenship late on to play for them.

He was born in Copenhagen, to a Danish mother and Polish father. He lost his Polish citizenship when his father and sisters became Danish citizens in 1971, he (Schmeical) was 8 yrs old. So hardly ‘took up Danish Citizenship late on to play for them’.
