Millwall Away 87 (Adcock 1-0)

City fans frogmarched down the back streets of New Cross, and whistling the theme from Bridge Over The River Kwai

Still makes me laugh

Wasnt there myself but I can just imagine what a laugh it must have been!

There was always a laugh in the 'escort' and a great feeling of comradeship. Me and my mates used to think we were tough, we really weren't, and try to slip out of the escort and make our way to the ground. A couple of times we came unstuck and ended up being confronted by a larger mob which didnt always end too well!

And I agree about the West Midlands police!

Michael do you remember Paul Doherty telling us about how he was at this game and dreading City getting a winner near the end of the game?

I soon realized the way to avoid both trouble and the escort was to turn up dead early and get pissed.never looked back once the penny had dropped.
Same here, after one really chaotic escort back to Leeds station (was there ever a good one?) I started using service trains more often.

Boro was another place where the coppers didn't give a fuck, in fact all the north-east grounds were nearly as bad as West Midlands for chucking out fans for nothing.

Scouse coppers were the worst, especially 81 quarter final.
Lime St to Goodison mid 70s, huge City escort up Scotland Rd, i remember dodging a metal piss pot aimed at my head from the flats and women throwing used sanitary towels wrapped in dirty nappies from the top floor all the time fighting off Scousers shouting ''have you met Mr Stanley'' unfortunately that day my mate Irish Alex did meet Mr Stanley and he has the huge scar on his face as a reminder, bastards

Sorry Mike, wrong game, Paul was at the game in the 90's when Lee Badbuy scored an equalizer near the end of the match and then nearly won it a minute later. He said he was praying that he didn't score as he had serious concerns for his own safety after the match.

Miners strike, South Yorkshire police were gagging for it.
a few coach loads went up to frikley to watch Stalybridge Celtic during the strikes a mixture of blues and reds, it didn't end well especially when they unfolded a banner saying fk surgery scargill, the police did nothing to quell what unfolded, basically because they couldn't? They reckon their was more coal thrown that day than what they had dug up in 5 year before, their were guys hiding in the changing rooms at half time with the players? with miners trying to kick the doors in.
