Police vetting/recruitment advice

I knew a lad who went in the police although he was on the video of City and United fans fighting on Chester Road many years ago. He told me he went into GMP because he enjoyed a scrap and thought he'd have a few 'on the house' as part of the job.

I think that as long as you are frank with them, there's little chance of any issues.

I was this minute old, when I found out they vetted. I went on the dark web and found a transcript of the vetting. I usually go on there for sex trafficking and slaves, so it made a nice change.

Do you promise not to kill or rape people?

All people?

All people! it’s very clear here on this card they gave me. In bold.

Oh alright then, if it’s in bold you can’t argue with that I suppose.

No you can’t, just doesn’t make sense.

Ok, I wont kill or rape anybody.

Do you promise?

Yes, ok then. I promise. Cross my heart.

Hope to die?

Hope to die, this is taking ages.

I agree with others that in any sane world it would have no bearing.

I'd go further actually, I don't think your son has any duty to disclose something that frankly has absolutely nothing to do with him. Surely there must be loads of parents out there that have spent convictions buried in their past that kids know nothing about? Why would you be held responsible for somebody else's behaviour? I don't think I have any right to report on my dad's private life, I've had questions about parents before in application processes but they've always been optional. Maybe it's different for the police but would seem strange for orphans to suddenly have a competitive advantage.

Obviously, disclose it if they ask to be on the safe side, I'm just waxing on a more philosophical level.

And waxing very well indeed.

I have a police record. When I went for my interview for US citizenship they asked if I had a police record. I said yes.
I was asked to describe it.
I replied, “Roxanne, 7 inch green vinyl with picture sleeve”
