Political relations between UK-EU

Just a thought - another Brexit "bonus" occurs to me. You are a high flying salesman travelling the EU striking deals and beating the nasty competition so the UK prospers. This last year has been tough as its all been done on line via zoom etc and its hit your sales volume coz the way your business works is on F2F negotiations and deal striking - something at which you excel - now as things get back to normal you've got 90 days..............I mean what happens when the client wants an F2F discussion in Lyon and you can't go there because you have used up your days? That nasty German can swoop in and take your sale or your firm can send young Nigel in your place? But hey then he starts to get a reputation and steals your sales and commissions.
Then you have to tell the Mrs she and the kids are off to the Dordogne without you this summer coz you have burned up all your days travelling to the EU and you are barred from entry ................. Covid is masking quite a lot of negatives at the moment

There have been a series of interviews with businesses blighted by the red tape they have been saddled with. Interesting to hear from people at the sharp end on the Brexit benefits.

"The reality is, it's killing us."

We are going to get a lot of this shit, it goes with the territory when you allow a country’s authorities to interfere in ordinary people’s lives and make arbitrary decisions - Windrush being a prime example.

It cuts both ways too, as it puts Britons living in the EU in a similar position.

I guess Brexiteers love red tape and bureaucrats meddling with peoples lives :)

Girl, 10, refused EU settled status in UK despite all family members being accepted. Italian national Sara Bajraktari told she isn't eligible for post-Brexit status along with parents + brother due to lack of adequate evidence she was in UK with them.’ @Independent

In the least surprising news of the year, the ‘tariff free‘ deal with the EU comes with a lot of *checks notes* tariffs. Oh, dear.

Billions of pounds of British exports to the EU faced tariffs in first three months of UK-EU tariff free trade deal, according to a Trade Policy Observatory analysis, seen by the BBC, of the official EU27 data from actual customs declarations now required on UK-EU trade.‘

You really do wonder who the Govt thinks will be paying the crews wages and for the upkeep of the boats - and spending money in the local shops, buying food and paying bills for up to the next 12 months?

as well as restricted time to spend in your holiday home in France there's also this kicker

Capital Gains Tax
The standard social levy charge for EU residents with a second home in France is currently 7.5% but this increases to 17.2% for British homeowners from 1 January 2021 as they will be no longer be EU residents. This means total costs will equate to 36.2%, up from 26.5%.

So the only advantage is that if you sell into a depressed market as Brits pack up and leave is that you can reduce your tax liability by accepting that the price has dropped. Even that will cost you as you have to appoint and use an accredited tax expert in France to make sure you don't duck any taxes.

Brexit eh? Making sure the EU thrives and prospers.
