Politics aside, are City the first-ever football club to have two former players elected President of their home country?

Haven't done an in depth search but the answer is no. First 2 footballers I checked; George Weah and Ahmed Ben Bella, both played for Marseille, very briefly albeit. Both presidents/prime ministers for Liberia and Algeria.
Sorry to shit on the party.
I blame Joe Royle, if he hadn’t upset Weah he wouldn’t have gone to Marseille and we would have been the first!

Ben Bella was never a Marseille player. He just played as a guest player for one game while serving in the port city during WW2.So City are still first and only

His 1 match for Marseille was in the French Cup not an exhibition, so that surely has to count.

During the War? know games played for clubs during WW2 in this country don't tend to count as they played for whatever club was nearest where they were stationed. In France who knows. They surrendered before it really started, so possibly different.Maybe even continued full domestic League and Cup programme.Though I doubt it due to France being partitioned into effectively 2(some people would say 3)different countries for the duration of WW2.Will look it up later

Do we put eee on the end of every answer now to show that we're true northerners?
