Poll Closed - Favourite Male Vocalist

I will point out that in the case of both Queen and Van Halen -- with great lead singer/showmen IMO -- one of the other things that made their music stick in the ears was the great back-up harmonies the rest of the band provided. Having said that, this is a tough category for me as to me the intonation/showmanship of the lead singer is typically the least meaningful part of the music I like.

Also -- three pages and no one has mentioned Plant or Jagger. Really?

Except for the late Freddie Mercury who simply is head and shoulders above anyone else, there are very few that I’ve heard live and impressed me.

Guy Garvey (Elbow) at least doesn’t try what his voice can’t reach and therefore has a very clear singing voice.

Completely subjective I like to listen to Paul Draper, former Mansun.

Of the names on here, no Marvin Gaye?

I'm sure some will vote fo them, though I think in other polls we were asked not to post who we were voting for in the thread.

Marv would be top 10 for me...along with Otis.....freddie M wouldn't get in my list.

Plant and Jagger are great musicians - wonderful!

But as top 10 vocalists - Led Zeppelin is my favorite band and I love the Stones - Plant and Jagger as vocalists don't quite make the cut for me. Love them. They're great. But it's the songs they write or sing and the bands they're a part of that contributes chiefly. As vocalists - great - but not top 10 for me.

Along these lines I was going to post something showcasing Bon Scott - but I decided against this for reasons explained above.

What about Ronnie James Dio? I actually think he's deserving of a top 10.

But the bands he sang for and the music he sung and/or wrote is so good that I'm not sure :-)

Oh for sure. I was just surprised no one had mentioned them yet! But you're right about not mentioning folks to whom you are giving specific votes. I just referred to some -- didn't say if I did or didn't vote for them :)

I have one incredibly famous singer on my list who I think will fall through the cracks and people will be kicking themselves afterwards for not remembering to vote for.

And I have another who no one else will vote for but me but it is my proudest vote yet :)
