Pollution in our rivers.

After the first episode I wrote to my local MP, Robert Goodwill, recently knighted and known for actually doing the sqaure root of fuck all, thats probably why he was knighted tbh.

Anyway the basis of my letter was to affirm that privitisation had been an absolute failure, and I received a 'cut and paste' reply almost immediately which answered questions I had not even raised. Thats the problem with constituency MP'sthey get benchmarked on the speed of reply , not whether the receipient is happy with the reply.

As long as their mates in the City have a license to print money the obsenity of water pollution will endure

Spot on mate.
I'm of an age where I was brought up not to litter, it was an unwritten rule, and as we all know, the unwritten ones are the first ones you learn.
I despair sometimes, actually, a lot of the time these days.
I'm quite rural, but somehow the hedges, ditches and verges are full of McDonald's, red bull cans, the odd mattress, tyres, and sometimes a fridge etc.
I could go for a 2 mile walk tomorrow, and I wouldn't be able to carry back the rubbish to my house.
It's a sad reflection on what we've become.
Their attitude is : "somebody else has a job to clear it up, I pay my tax etc etc"

Christ, do people actually swim in rivers ?
We have mooring and fishing rights to two small stretches of the Little Ouse river on the Norfolk/Cambridgeshire border.
Just farming around here as it’s quite rural ,so pretty sure the rivers are clean & healthy enough to swim in. Loads of us swim in it from may until September, a few hardier souls carry on all year..
that said further down stream there are 30 narrowboat, sure they pump “stuff” into the water , no policing for that sort of thing, I haven’t seen any anyway ..

Watch the second programme by Whitehouse.
There are rivers that are technically dead because of farming chemicals draining into them.
Pesticides, fertilisers and slurry run off farmland into rivers.

I dare say it’s happening , just no obvious signs

Snorky asked me to put this link up. The River Wye is getting heavily polluted from phosphates caused by many chicken factories further up the river up in Wales. It's not just about saving the river Wye, it's about protecting all our waterways.

Similar to me, I do what I can but can't help but think if everyone did a little bit then it wouldn't be such a big issue.

I know lifestyle has changed and convenience foods / drinks are the norm' but that is no excuse for people discarding the waste.

I think fast food places should print registrations on packages actually, DVLA don't fuck about and legislation could be brought in to the nail the Tramps when rubbish is disarded.
That's actually a brilliant idea, and wouldn't be too difficult for McDonald's, or other similar peddlars of shite to implement.
I'd go one step further, and make them use 100% biodegradable packaging, make them own the problem.
I love this country, but the litter situation makes me sad.
