If I recall, and I don’t know why I remember this, he set up a band called Wings, which sort of fell apart so he brought in some new members and marketed it as Paul McCartney’s Wings who released Live and Let Die which was #1. Then a bit later they changed it back to Wings when it was just him, Linda and another fella and had some more hits.

Edit: Actually Live and Let Die was only #9 in the UK (should have known no James Bond song got to the top until recently) so it’s all moot as none of the other singles released as PM & Wings got to #1 in the UK.
