just came across this band on you tube more or less by accident , at 52 i thought id heard every decent band there is , i was wrong these boys are awesome , cant believe they dont sell on the same level as the likes of radiohead , muse etc , if you like intelligent rock then give them a listen , they deserve a audience ...i apologise if they are on the radio constantly and every body has seen them live about 50 times and are sick to the back teeth of them , i am middle aged and out of touch sorry

This Band is/were massively underrated, when you consider the shit that is currently out there at the minute. Muse springs to mind!!! It was my son who got me into them, and it is well worth the time going through the back catalogue, some quality tunes hidden away. As a matter of interest Steven Wilson the Lead guy in Porcupine Tree was on last Friday at the Academy to promote his new album, so there is even more to get into if you are prepared to listen to the solo stuff.

That's three of us who are hooked.

Deadwing is a great record - Mellotron Scratch and Lazarus are repeatable ad infinitum.

Mods - Can we have an obscure Prog Rock thread stuck to the top of the forum please?

IQ, Porcupine Tree, Spocks Beard, Pendragon, Jump, Jadis, 25 Yard Screamer, Panic Roon, Karnataka, Mostly Autumn......the list is endless.

Taxiforcreaney, glyncity and I can't be the only ones surely?

Are we?

Make that four of us who are hooked...and I am also in my mid fifties. One of my favourite PT albums is " Recordings" -apparently throwaway tracks from other album out takes - brilliant, superb musicianship and great songs. Fear of a Blank Planet is right up there with the very best prog albums. I also like the much earlier The Sky Moves Sideways which is a very Pink Floyd-esque "wish you were here" type album. If you get chance try and watch the live DVD " Anesthatise" (sic) just an incredible live concert which demonstrates what wonderful musicians these guys are and in particular showcases Steve Wilsons guitar virtuosity.

Porcupine tree is great. The vocalist for them Steven Wilson also has released music under his own name as well which i think is equally great.

Also Steven Wilson is mates with Mikael Akerfeldt the vocalist from Opeth, anyway Steven has has produced some of Opeth's albums.

Here is an Opeth album you may like that was produced by Steven Wilson:

P.S. Opeth is my favourite band

Steve Wilson did a few albums with Aviv Geffen as well, under the name Blackfield.

One of my very good mates is Opeth's guitar tech.
