I think that penalty award was a case of a younger referee being intimidated into giving the decision by the VAR ref. Didn't have the strength of his convictions to stand by his original decision. Definitely looked a bit conflicted when he was walking away from the monitor.

I agree with that. The other thing that suggests he was conflicted is if he gives it as a handball, he has to then award either a yellow or a red card too surely as it’s denying a promising attack at the least.
