Just to check, are you saying you still want a public broadcaster, just not the BBC in its current guise? As that’s a different argument to scrapping it altogether.
I’d absolutely want to see changes to where they cut their funding and some of the things they still fund, I’m arguing them as being important from a public broadcast perspective, not how it’s currently run.
What I am saying is that for 5.5 billion a year we could get a lot more, I'd fuck politics off it completely and just do programming, why because politics in this country is as divisive as fuck.
They are not cutting edge any more nobody cares, granted they make SOME excellent programs but for that amount of money they should be making a hell of a lot more.
Bear in mind it’s 3.5 billion, the rest of it is from money the bbc earns itself through other means.
Politics (and more importantly news, given its increasingly blurred with politician opinion nowadays) is absolutely divisive as fuck. That to me is a strong argument to retain the news side of it at least! Change how it’s ran and its board so it can get back to properly separating the two I’d completely agree with.
Personally I don’t particularly want them to be cutting edge in a lot of things they do, I just want them to continue to be there for the parts of society that use them. Local radio being a prime example. That’s not cutting edge at all, it’s not something I listen to at all, but it’s a service plenty of people do and find incredibly valuable.
When a tree is cut down there is space for other trees to grow, we'll never agree on this I know and other opinions are of course valid but I will never change my mind on this one.

You're entitled to your views but I think lots of really great programs would never have been made if the BBC model was like ITV and all the others. Leave well alone.There's no need whatsoever for the licence fee. It's an outdated rax used to fund the likes of Lineker and second rate presenters.
I'd be more than happy for the BBC to raise money through advertising, like all other TV companies.
Most BBC programmes are followed by lengthy promos (adverts) for their own upcoming shows and iPlayer. They're just as irritating as adverts on ITV etc.

Any good shows / programmes would almost certainly have been picked up by other TV companies even if the BBC didn't exist.
ITV / C4 etc models have produced many great programmes over the years.
The BBC has never had to work for it's money. As an organisation, it's little more than a government endorsed (and as such, influenced) parasite.
We're not living in the 1950s.
