Positives

We are above the rags, still close to the top of the table, in the league cup semi final. None of the traditional top teams are playing well. Chelsea are going to be lucky to make any European football next year.

We have our stars to come back. Hopefully the poor performances recently will be a wake up call, to work harder as a team.

1) The problems stem from poor defending in central defence and we have Kompany to come back in. However he seems to always be 2 weeks away. If he comes back in, and comes back fit then we'll be a lot more solid. Mangala will also be an improvement. Although we have a lot of muscle injuries, we only have one long term injury.

2) No one has taken advantage of our poor run unless we include Leicester. I don't, but if they keep this up then we'll have to.

3) Silva is back. Means every game we should control possession.

We're changing manager in a few months time and have everything in place to be a success once we have a manager who has a clue.

Nobody thought we'd win the league 2013/14. Aside from the first week we were only top after beating Villa the penultimate game, and for the whole season it was first Arsenal and then Liverpools year according to the media. That shows you can't realistically predict anything in December.

Just to change the subject slightly, does everyone think the Leicester bubble will burst sooner or later? Or is there any possibility we might see a Blackburn style one season wonder?

+Delph looks much better than expected.

+Iheanacho.

+Hart seems to have emerged as a real leader in VK's absence, taking on the media duties and demanding more from the team etc.

+KDB is the best player we've bought since Sergio and could feasibly be the best player in the league by May if everyone else gets fit and helps him out.

+Despite glaring misses, Sterling has scored more goals than expected, he's got 1 in 3 here vs. 1 in 5 at Liverpool.

+When Vinny is fit the defence is impregnable.

+Fernandinho has been world class and miles better than last season.

+George Evans became the first player to play for us at every single age group.

+Still favourites for the league

+Qualified for the last 16 of the CL in only 4 games.

+Finishing 2nd in our group is no where near as bad as usual because United and Chelsea are probably going to be runners up as well, making it 50% less likely we get one of the big 3.

+We seem to be the favourites for Guardiola.

+Most of our injured players are due back for the Christmas run.

We're 3 points off the top of the PL, through to the last 16 of the CL with a real chance of winning a very tough group and in the semi of the cup. All despite not being able to play our strongest 11 once this season. So far.

Another chance to see Messi after we draw Barcelona in the last 16.

Seriously though if we reach Christmas still in contention to win all 4 competitions then I'm always very happy.

This was mentioned in another thread and for me, makes me believe we can be positive. Despite many injuries, poor confidence and poor run we are still within 3 points of top of the league with all our nearest rivals playing probably the best they can (maybe arsenal could up their game, but maybe not much more). Once we get our first team back and fit, we should easily lift our game and hopefully, take a positive step towards the league.

Bumped into a rag mate this morning, he said see you enjoyed Stoke meaning the amount of ale I consumed, yea superb all dayer pity that the lack of football that got in the way, he replied I'm on my way to Wolfsburg this afternoon al, I'm expecting Thursday night football by 10 tomorrow, he said at least yours is only a blip ours is done ,the league will be yours I've no doubt about that, this guy as done his 50 years same as me and was completely serious so positivity comes in all shapes and sizes !

In the cold light of day , you could comment that our squad is doing brilliant to keep in contention in 4 competitions, despite having 6 or 7 players injured for virtually every game this season , ive said some harsh things about MP recently , as have others , but maybe we should cut them a bit of slack , Ive no doubt the players are giving 100% but are jaded , its the same 13/14 players every week ,and most of them have played nearly 30 games this season (including interantionals) and we are only just over a third of the way in to the season.
Excuses , excuses , excuses ? maybe so , but there are mitigating circumstances for our recent performances , and which other Premiership "top 4" contender is consistently playing brilliantly ? Its a very tough league this year , we just need a couple of big players back , and in form , and i am still confident we will win it
