Am I reading the stats the wrong way round? On Saturday we had 70% possession but gave away twice as many free kicks as Burnley, last night we had more than 50% possession but gave away 3 times as many free kicks? So in summary we foul the fuck out of teams whilst pissing on them with possession? Or maybe there’s another reason??

Our press is very aggressive and we don't have midfielders who specialise in tackling I can see those stats easily also when we have possession teams dont get near us so we do usually out foul our opponents we had more fouls v shakhtar as well
Just checked on last night's stats we commited 3 x the amount of fouls their 5 to our 15

Maybe in the process of attempting to recover the ball we commit the odd foul.

I think Dominic Torrent actually said that if we don't get the ball back in 7 seconds we commit a foul.

We also tend to pass the ball so quickly/often that the opposition don't get close enough to foul for long periods of time, then get frustrated and do us a bad one

was thinking similar myself at why we are reported as a dirty team, we get many cards and fouls against..

It is down to pressing, as soon as we lose the ball pep wants three round that player to get the ball back or make him ( sorry to be sexist ) panic pass and lose the ball. Just like Sane on Saturday Vs burnley, he was so quick in on the burnley defender that he scissor tackled him.

You look at Silva and the amount of free kicks he gives away for a small light player, take the ball off him ( rarely seen ) and he is back at your ankles. Go near him with the ball and he is on you within seconds. It does give high free kicks away, but the benefits of pressing like this far outlay the free kicks given.

Pep is more than happy for the players to foul the opposition to stop their momentum whilst trying to win the ball back. Calculated fouls, not cloggers like Cardiff.

Teams don't try and tackle City, they stand off and maintain their shape. City lose the ball they try and get it back, it's not that surprising. Equally, City can get caught on the break if they give it away, and so do commit cynical tackles like pulling back. It's just an effect of how they play.
