Possible squad/starting XI next season?

Walker may be the best full back but does not suit our new players and new tactics we are going to play this season, inverted wingers and a target man. we need a full back that holds the width and cancelo is the choice.
Cancelo will eventually become first choice as Walker is 32 but I think he will still have a prominent role to play next season and probably the one after as long as he doesn't suddenly lose his pace.

All about opinions but I’d have to disagree there fella. To me Stones is a better player and more composed on the ball. Laporte always seems to reserve his brainfart moments for the biggest games too!
Somewhat true, but the reason Pep picks Laporte is because of his distribution. We usually start attacks down the left and he's key to this. We weren't quite as good at this when we had Dias and Stones. There's a big drop off when Ake plays LCB also.

Target man? I think you’ll be disappointed if that’s how you see Peo will utilise Haaland….

Walker also affords us the ability to push out with a security blanket, Rodri sits invariably when he’s not present but his game has evolved, his ability to dictate, alongside Bernie, is a joy but only really effective when walker is in…. The forward approach, for me, next year will be numbers in the box, a consequence of the chaos haaland will bring, that is protected by what Kyle offers, and he’s the best at it in Europe!

I am not saying halland will always be a target man. but when teams put 10 man behind, of course he is going to be a target man, where else would he stay in the pitch than inside the box? in those kind of games we don't need walker's pace and more so cancelo's creativity and delivery from the wide areas.

Teams do it already and we find a way, mostly by stretching opposing fullbacks… I’m not discounting your logic by the way, just think you’ll see more variation than you alluded, I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see scoring records from outside the 18 yard box to boot… either way, strength in depth is what we have and with the 5 sub rule, we can transition when needed!

One thing I'm wondering is with Haaland, how much quicker we will play. Usually the 10 men behind the ball is partly because of how we play as well. Pep wants possession first and loves the build up with 50 passes before tap ins.

However, with Haaland and he excels with balls played in behind there could be a tendency to play quicker. I recently watched Wolves away again and this was kind of the case with KDB running rampant with 4 goals. I don't know how much of this was Pep trying to blow Wolves away early seeing we needed to win games down the stretch and our defence being depleted. So instead of going for the 0-1 score line he may have been fine with 3-6 or something similar. It was an open game because we played quicker, but also more vulnerable to more counters. Perhaps this is also the thinking of getting Phillips in to prevent those. Of course there still will be games where he thinks possession is king and play more methodical. In any case it will be interesting how Pep uses Haaland to attack.

Just KDB taking the game by the scruff and obliterated their midfield in between the lines, they were on their jollies tbh and we could of scored at will, not to discount the performance but that space won’t be afforded 90% of the time…

I'd like to see Neymar (assuming 93.20 wasn't drunk/given duff info from someone who was) on the right, keep his game focused ie. 'beat/humiliate your FB and pull it back/go for goal, don't worry about coming deep, we will feed you constantly'.
On the left, as a rule of thumb, we could pair Laporte(or Ake)-Cancelo-Foden and Dias(Stones in for Laporte)-Cucurella-Grealish (or Neymar when he starts there), so you always have a triangle in terms of footedness/body position and underlaps/overlaps from the FB (Grealish suffered abit last season from a lack of overlaps), and similar on the right (Cancelo-Mahrez). Talking about 1st/2nd XI as above isn't really how I view it

If you believe everything you read then our first XI next year will have no one in it from last year. However.

Ed
Walker, Stones, ruben, cancelo
Rodri
Bern, Kev
Foden, Grealish
Haaland

Palmer, Gundog, Philips, Laporte to rotate.

The rest i guess we'll see.

Just doing a 2 up front version which requires Delap and another (Foden?) as the strikers. Unlikely I know :-)

We'd be fine without Neymar but this is frightening.
