I think that the civic society of which you speak has been endangered to breaking point in the last 40 years due to the relentless focus on profit over the welfare of society. One of the tools that have been used to bring this about has been privatisation. In my opinion it is high time this was reversed. I personally believe in a mixed economy with asocial conscience. To that end I think Corbyn could do this country a lot of good if he got into power and started his programme of re-nationalisation as the Labour manifesto promised. I don't advocate that manufacturing industries should necessarily be nationalised but the services on which the common people rely from day to day certainly should be. A good point to start would be gas, electricity, communications, railways, water, postal services, health etc. I don't think a richer society that is selfish is better than a society that is more equal and looks after all it's citizens regardless of their wealth. I think the pendulum has swung too far and a correction is long overdue. This seems to me to be the only way to preserve cohesion and civility in society.
