The problem with this is that Sadiq Khan ran on this ticket and commissioned a report by the LSE. The result wasn't what he was hoping for: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/property...london-homes-owned-foreign-buyers-left-empty/

Guess Corb Marx hasn't read the report either.
So if there are no empty homes it means people can't be rehoused in them. Everyone's happy. Surely you're not saying that Corbyn is advocating rehousing the fire victims in houses that are already occupied. It's either that or there must be some empty homes somewhere.

Maybe he should focus on the 100000 unallocated people in London rather than the 1350 empty homes. Another elephant in the room - immigration uncontrolled means we have to deliver a new home every 7 minutes. Helps contribute to out of control property prices and is without doubt a contributory factor to poor housing standards.

Because he lives in it. The houses he is talking about are houses that are bought as investments and then left empty to appreciate in value before being sold further down the line.

Shouldnt that be down to the investors to decide weather they give up their multi million pound houses? Suggesting it causes unrest and that's what exactly he doing.

Maybe the Government could just acquire the nearby houses that are registered to people as companies for tax avoidance.

When houses are bought by the rich to leave empty in the expectation that they will increase in value, they are taking those houses out of the market. Taking houses out of the market reduces supply, increases house prices, pushes up rent. Houses should be used for what they are built for, to be lived in. It's a disgrace for people, and councils I might add, to leave homes empty when there are people out there who can't find a home to live in.

If anyone has watched chuka closely you will come to the obvious conclusion that he is a giant ****. He is always on the verge of getting really angry with anyone who disagrees with him. Be warned he is a very flawed individual.

Chaka comes across pretty well to me. Bojo, Gove and May can't be far away from a trip to Bedlam!

What would it mean for a property to be requisitioned?

It means that in a emergency the government can use the properties, temporarily, whichever way they see fit. For example, the luxury cruise liner Queen Elizabeth II was requisitioned during the Falkands war as a troop ship.

I agree with that.. but what does requisitioning mean?
Say a property is bought by somebody.. paid for, deeds owned, in the hope that the investment will produce a profit. Does it mean that the property is bought at sale value by the government? So the owner is not compensated, but simply alleviated of his asset at the going price? Which seems fair to me by the way.

I'll tell you what would cause unrest, if a family of survivors broke in and squatted in one of these houses and the coppers went in to try and evict them.

they should get it at market value, and an annual fee based on any increase in value in subsequent years to compensate them for losing their investment and maybe even a chunk of their retirement.

but this is Corbyn so he'll just steal it.

Well this certainly seems to be an emergency. Has it happened before? Like with floods, or earthquakes or something.. and is it in fact only a temporary thing? until the destroyed homes are renewed? so it would in effect be a pragmatic stop-gap only, so as the investor is minimally inconvenienced?

What clause would that be? An unforeseeable accident one? - Doesn't such a thing exist in the risk of investing.. an accepted risk.. If it was sure a deal 100% of the time, this investing lark would be easy.

Why don't we tax them for any time they are left empty to at least the annual rate of house price increase so they are either forced to sell or make sure the house is occupied.
