Post Match Thread: Kiev 1 - 3 City

Much prefer Clichy to Kolarov but he had a mad ten minutes where everything he tried went to sh*t. Still surprises me how much confidence (or lack of) can impact a top professionals game.

Full backs remain priority for me in the summer.
He looked like he'd had half a bottle of vodka at half time.

Looking forward to Sunday now, much more confident. Hopefully Liverpool go to extra time.
No extra time please I have work on Monday and live in Newcastle sl lets just do the bin dippers in normal time eh
Great result, some big performances out there.

Would've liked to have seen us rest a couple tonight from the start, but I think Pellegrini got his set up bang on. Fernandinho on the right actually worked really well.

Not happy with the in game management though, think we'd have been wiser not to go chasing after that third goal and try to have kept the clean sheet. Make some early changes with an eye on Sunday and close up shop, thought we faded with the pressing off the ball which made us so dominant in the first half and were too wide open at times, and none of those key players have been rested now going into Sunday.
Whats all this crap about resting players. They are atheletes and should be capable of playing three times a week so I don't hold with the theory of resting players. Play your strongest team at all times if you want to win everything.

this is like 1 of them daft comments on them facebook pages where someone who can hardly speak the language is trying to be clever but making themselves look a tit...
He fucked up once where he got caught on the ball, but a big factor to why they didn't look threatening most of the game is Fernando.

If you'd said Clichy - with his poor passing and poor positional sense (in this game not all the time) - i would have maybe taken on board that comment. He was our worst player (but i do like him, look at how well he played at Sunderland the other week). His poor passing lead to three Kiev attacks on our box last night.

But Fernando played really well! Worked hard, closed down well, tackled well, intercepted well, passed well...top game!

Jaysus give some credit to the opposition would you. Iarmalenko is one of the best in the world at what he does. Clichy had the hardest night of anyone and managed to hang in there. He looked more solid in the first purely because iarmalenko was rusty. Give him some credit for doing well on a very hard night for him.

i think what helped Raheem was the fact he didnt have Kolarov flying past him every 2 seconds. he knew clichy was staying pretty deep and not overlapping so he could concentrate on his game a bit more. on paper an over lapping full back "should" add an extra dimension to attacking play but sometimes it can "over complicate" things.

I think Clichy was right to stay a bit deeper as Armalenko (sp) is a very good player and he needed to be contained.

I was a little surprised/worried when i saw Dinho on the right but it worked well. He seemed to cover a lot of ground and didint just stay on the right.

theres no easy games in europe so a 1-3 win away from home should be applauded.

Im no expert mind, just my thoughts :-)

This is nonsense I'm afraid so glad you're not our club doctor. It can be done in the short term but it's well established that 3 days is the MINIMUM recovery time required after playing at the sort of intensity we typically see today. Your muscles need to strengthen and you need to replenish key biochemical nutrients like glycogens, which takes time.

Compare it to charging your phone when the battery's low but you only have a short time to do it, so it's not fully charged, say at 75%. You carry on using it, so use most of the battery then put it on for another brief charge, and now it's 60%. Same cycle again and it's now 50% when you start using it. Etc. So it won't last as long as a full charge and will last less every time.

Can't agree with that. Clichy making an occasional mistake & being beaten by a good player is one thing but he went completely to shite & invited the opposition into the game, by making elementary stupid mistakes, as did Otamendi. One instance for example, they hit a ball over the top & Ciichy just ran underneath it, leaving his opponent goal side with the ball. Just completely missed a simple ball. All hell broke loose from then on.

For a spell of about ten minutes, Clichy & Otamendi were the biggest threat to City winning the game. Prior to that, both were great & ok later too.

But you just can't allow yourself to drop to that level.

Excellent game. The most most most impressive thing was the pressing we did, got really in their faces and showed no fear. That is what we need to do in the CL. So glad we scored the third, the team were so fucked off when DK scored

MoM - Sterling
Hart - 7.5
Sagna - 8
Otamendi - 8.5
Kompany - 8.5
Clichy - 7
Ferny - 7.5
Fernandinho - 8.5
Yaya - 7.5
Silva - 8
Aguerro - 8
Hart 7.5 and Clichy 7? Hart made a fantastic save at 1-2 and made several good punches from crosses...Clichy had a very average game.
