POTY - Virgil Van Dijk

De Bruyne was MOTM in practically every game he played. Rather than a flat track bully who barely ever scores in the big games.

Obviously he was great, but you can't look past the main man for a team that was so far ahead of anything else we've ever seen in the PL era.
Last season this wasn't true. Salah scored 7 times against the big 6.
Besides KDB was more of a creator last season. As is often the case, goalscorers are more regularly chosen. Anyone of KDB or Salah would have been a deserving winner.

KDB dragged us to the greatest ever points total in Premier League history (by a mile). Salah's goals dragged you to one point less than you got in the previous season when he wasn't there. Yes, you got to a Champions League final, but let's be honest, you were comprehensively outplayed once you got there, suggesting that there might have been a slight hint of luck involved in getting there. If we're talking about impact on the team, then VVD is undeniably more impactful than Salah was.

And you're right, goalscorers are more regularly chosen, because it's voted for by people who don't necessarily watch a lot of full games and lazily rely on stats (look at Garth Crooks' team of the week, which basically just includes anyone who scored a goal). But ultimately, that's what the golden boot is for. There's already an award for scoring lots of goals. The POTY is for the best player, and that's why I'll have far less of a problem is VVD wins it this year than Salah winning it last year. VVD has had an immense impact on the title race.

Leaked TOTY apparently as follows:

Ederson, Alexander-Arnold, van Dijk, Laporte, Robertson, Fernandinho, Bernardo, Pogba, Sterling, Aguero, Mane

Would have expected Hazard over Mane. Surprised we got six in but all ours more than deserving. Pogba a bit of a head scratcher, though his stats on paper don't look bad. Mind you a vast majority of his goals are penalties or penalty rebounds.

Ederson over Alisson is very interesting if true. Dippers and the media been bigging up Alisson all season but it seems the players rate Eddie.

I'm glad he's won it. Hopefully it goes to his head and he makes a costly fuckup in the last three games.
