That's just weirdly coincidental! Been on YouTube all night and came across this old song and thought of you, Mackenzie, cos of Kate!!

Anyway *ahem!*, Macca, I've just found another version of the song I posted, that I think is BETTER than Kate's contribution! There's just a sound of resolute strength in her voice in delivery that Kate Bush lacked.

Kate Bush is an incredible talent.

From memory, i'm sure i read somewhere that she wrote this in her early teens?

This song takes me back to being a kid too. Some songs just "send me" back there... hard to describe really. In fact thinking about it, most of Kate's early stuff has this affect.

While Kate has stated that she has generally been attracted to men older than her,this song came about more from an obserbvation she had about most of the men she knew at the time.Indeed,it is kind of an observation about most men in general.That observation is that most men are still like children in some ways.I can almost sense you laughing right now,but Kate meant this in a good way.It's about how they retain that child like fun and sparkle in the eyes.
You are also correct that she did record this song at age 16.It was one of the songs on the demo recorded with the financial assistance of David Gilmour of Pink Floyd.There was speculation that maybe Kate and Gilmour were romantically involved,but that just wasn't the case.They made contact through a friend of the Bush family who knew Gilmour,and Gilmour was impressed with Kate's potential and got involved in getting her career off the ground.

There you go Bigga and Dave. I cut and pasted that...I had to make sure I was correct in what I thought the song meant. It does what it says on the tin (so to speak) but I had to double check because, knowing Kate, it could have been a hell of a lot deeper!!

Oh and Bigga....the other version IS better, you're right. I don't think Kate's voice was at its best with the original Gabriel song.
