Pre match light/laser shows

Some need to see the bigger picture.
If you think its aimed at some fat 45 year old youre very much mistaken.
Its all about the kids. If it helps hooks them in then GOOD!!!

A a child I remember walking up the steps to the top of windy corner and looking out at Maine Roads pitch and the wavy main stand roof, that was enough to hook me and keep me for life.

Didn't need no lasers and smoke machines, it is just guff trying to bring 'sports entertainment' feel to pre match and to me a bit shit.

I love city sq, though I don't go myself the concept is fantastic, I have no issue with the various half time bits they have done, and I don't care if they do the light shows, but I still find them boringly wank.

Life is a bit different these days though.

Light shows back then were done by lamplighters ;-)

And me too. Took my 6 year old for the first time this season and his face (which i managed to photograph) was amazing when he saw the pitch and size of the stadium was one of awe

but ya know what, things change , time moves on. If we dont like it just stay in the bar a bit longer ;)

I’m not sure it is aimed at kids, it’s just copying American sports’ razzmatazz, and aimed at people who enjoy concerts by the likes of Coldplay and Take That.

Besides, kids are only about 5% of the attendees (maybe up to 10% max). Why would the club aim things at such a small percentage of the crowd? It’s not a kid’s theme park, it’s a football match. And these lights shows aren’t part of football culture, they’re part of NBA/NFL culture.

We can call United and Liverpool many negative things, but their fans wouldn’t stand for this cheese on toast and if their clubs did it they’d put a stop to it.

Instead of putting a load of money into this sort of thing, they should be sitting down with the 1894 group and helping them create bigger better displays (but let the fans lead with it and don’t allow the club to input much other than time and money they’re spending on lights)… those things are part of football culture.
Honest to god mate it doesnt bother me either way. I dont rush in to see it but then i quite enjoy it when i see it

Football is so different to when i started going in the late 70s its unrecognisable in many ways.

dont forget in the 90s we has frank sidebottom and norman wisdom pissing about on the pitch
