Will be interesting to see whether it’s actually Lewis inverting from left back. Pep might just want to see how Stones fares in the Rodri role, rather than in his own ‘Stones role’. Stones has played that role years ago for us, but with his recent increased understanding of what he needs to do in there, Pep could be using a friendly to gauge his progression.

Yep. I'm wondering if this is the plan for if Rodri is out or being rested for this season. Whether or not Phillips stays, Stones is going from strength to strength in midfield and he has trusted Lewis last season.

Phillips is only here because he refused to entertain interest from elsewhere, if we’re honest. Pep will want to know if Stones is the Rodri backup or whether Kovacic is the guy for that. Because it sure as fuck ain’t Phillips.
