Not being argumentative here, just curious - is he expected to not try and get in the way? If he’s supposed to try, where’s he meant to put his arm?

The rule with the arm was to stop penalties where a defender.was close to a shot or cross and the ball.was kicked towards the arm and the defender couldn't do anything about it hitting the arm. If you lean in you have made a move to the ball so you had better not let it hit your arm or its a penalty.

If you ask me (and nobody is)… if you have your arms behind your back and it hits you above the elbow then it shouldn’t really matter what the fuck you’re doing. You could be leaning, diving, doing a twist. The standard for handball needs to be way way higher than just “it touched his arm”. He’s clearly not waving an arm at it which is what the spirit of the handball rule is about.

I don’t disagree, I just wonder if they judged there was a significant gap between the ball being kicked and where the defender was, that they’ve factored in the time he had to decide what to do (?)…. It makes me wonder though why he didn’t just lean a bit more and let it hit his midriff

Can't believe people are saying no pen, it's an absolute stone waller for me, he's leant into the ball and it's hit his arm.

Deliberate Handball:
- Deliberate movement of arm away from body.
- Clear additional arm movement.
- Arm position makes body bigger and is unjustifiable.


He leaned into it but his whole body leans, in no way does it meet the criteria for deliberate handball imo.

He 100% leaned into it but with his arm fully tucked in, you cant give a pen for it as he literally has nowhere to put his arm.

He cant put it above his head and lean into it with his body because the refs have said outstretched arms are penalties.

Defenders cant win under these rules.

He has to get his body in front of the ball. He didn't. He gambled and lost.
He knew what he was doing (or wanted to do), he just didn't do it right.
Penalty, unfortunately.

No the ball wasn't going to hit his arm until he leaned his body and arm towards the ball, the ball.didnt move direction so if the ball wasn't going to hit his arm then it did only one thing can have happened
