Premier League Games 16/17/18 Sept 23

Feel for Vinny, think they've been robbed. A miniscule brushing of the arm against the ball when the player is at full tilt, that didn't change it's direction is now a clear and obvious error. GTF.

Makes better telly mate
This maybe a flippant comment but it’s exactly what this is all about, 24/7 entertainment. Sky was built on the back of a strong Manchester United, interspersed with the odd win by another team who would bring the maximum subscribers. Once that gets a little stale, you need more content to keep the masses interested and what better to bring the hordes tuning in than the thought of injustice or getting a lucky break, it keeps the narrative firmly on the PL.

We say it’s the best league in the world but is it actually because of the sport, or is it the way that they market their programmes and how much the media manipulate the brand for their own benefit?

I truly do wonder this: do the people who invented this understand the incredible emotional destruction that they've wreaked on the game in the space of a few seasons?
I mean, have they ever felt that pure delirium that every single supporter in the country has felt on literally dozens and, sometimes, hundreds, of occasions. I can only presume they haven't. Taking that away from the people who've been going to matches all their lives, just willing that ball into the net — I mean, taking away the instant, spontaneous, joy of it — nothing can be worth that.
Not one thing. I would honestly rather have the ref's decisions, with the mistakes that are part of them, back, if I could have that back. I've lived with them, i.e. the mistakes, for nearly all my footballing life. And I myself might often have been mistaken.
I want that celebration back, with no afterthoughts, no holding back. How often, where in life, do you have the licence to go completely and utterly crazy with joy? And sharing it with thousands of like-minded people for that instant?
It is a terrible, terrible loss.

And all in the name of a ‘justice’ that is often anything but obvious. If a ball brushes — literally brushes — the upper part of a player's arm on its way into the net, how can that meaningfully be called fucking handball!! If a toe or a knee, literally only that, is goalside of the last defender, how can that meaningfully be called offside? That is, how can it be considered to have given them a significant advantage in real time? It is driving me slowly crazy.

Maybe I’d accept it if it was just strictly on the Rules but as we have seen it’s been manipulated to get the desired Result far too often for anyone to say it’s just pure chance etc. Ditto the Injury Time this Season -12 minutes Injury Time cos Spurs are losing to Sheffield Utd -yeah right. It all stems from 1992 and Sky and Money taking over and the end result is the ever ending spiral until Football resembles WWF.

Those replays again… it’s definitely handball! I don’t know what everyone is looking at. His arm straightens in order to get the ball away from the defender.
Replays should only be at normal speed no slow motion that’s how the ref sees it so how can it be a clear and obvious error if slow motion is used I wonder if Darren England has any knowledge of bio mechanics because, if he had he would know that wasn’t deliberate hand ball Webb needs to get on the phone to Vinny and offer one of his weekly apologises It mad what these idiots are doing to the game

If Burnleys' 2nd goal had been allowed to stand and they had 3 points on the board, they would only be 3 points behind the rags.
Then if Burmley won on Saturday by 2 clear goals (not impossible) they would have gone above the rags.
That would have sucked the shitrags into the relegation battle, where they truly belong.
Even worse, the dubious sending off of Burnleys' striker has probably made it impossible for them to get anything from that match.
So the rags benefit even more, because a win for them now lifts the rags clear of the relegation battle.
Operation 'keep the rags in the league' is definitely on!
(But will it succeed?!)

Same as the scandal in Italy, decisions being made in games not involving juventus was the major contribution as they eliminated players from other key games etc.

They try to be subtle but fail miserably.

Enjoying listening to Thomas Frank, very informative and seems like a top bloke.
It'd be interesting to have a current manager on every week.
When managers are on, the standard of punditry escalates massively. Far more interesting and insightful than the ex-player pundits who aren’t in-and-around training grounds anymore will ever be.

No offense to Vinny but he needs a fashion consult. The suit jacket and cap with trainers is a really daft look. Looks like he forgot his clothes and went diving in the hand me ups wheelie bin.

You know, in all honesty, I've sometimes thought that about Pep in these latter years. What happened to his natty suits in his first season? Not all the time, of course. But sometimes would be refreshing.
