Atmosphere is as bad here as it’s been at the Etihad in the last few games. Makes the game boring, like Covid football.

Yes he did, but the ball changed direction and for me (despite his interpretation of the law) he should have stopped the game.

Nothing in the law suggests a change of direction is considered.

When the ball hits a referee,
play continues unless the ball goes directly into the goal, a team starts a promising attack, or the team in possession changes. In these specific situations, play is stopped and restarted with a dropped ball for the team that last touched the ball before it hit the official.


Hooper could have stopped it under the starting a promising attack, but the pass was aimed to the player that got the ball anyway so the attack wasn’t affected by the touch.

Bit hard on the defending side, but the laws were followed.
