Dire comes earlier in the dictionary, so I'm working on the basis that as dreadful is after, it must mean that it's progressively worse.

Dire = shite
Dreadful = dire shite.

I'm going to watch Murder She Wrote if this doesn't improve in the first five minutes of the second half.

I used to watch as much as I could but whether I’m older and losing interest or the games shitter I dont know. But I have no desire to watch any of the early games today.
