Where does the doughnut thief thing come from?

When he first arrived at these shores he walked into Tesco, picked up a load of donuts, ate some in the store and walked out with the rest of them without paying for them. When stopped by the store security he said that he thought they were free and that people were just allowed to help themselves to them.

In short he simply nicked a load of donuts 'cause he's a prick!
