I mean Webb spelled it out this week on Micah’s new podcast - they pick VAR’s that they know are ‘weaker’ referees but are liked by the onfield refs.

Webb said they use Salisbury as the main VAR guy as the onfield refs love him - Linekar called out a few high profile clangers he has made and Webb shrugged it off as ‘yeah but all refs make mistakes and the lads love him’

When Webb is being allowed to run the thing and openly says they’re more interested in the refs having someone they like on the VAR, it’s not surprising that incompetence is allowed to run rife.

Indeed, but it is still corruption, especially in light of Mike Dean’s admission this week.

‘Jobs for the boys’ is corruption, even if it isn’t as egregious as bribery, extortion, or illicit manipulation (which are likely also all going on in the PL).
