Premier League Games 4/5/6 December

Chelsea rarely impress me. Once in like 3 or 4 games they look very good and dominate. But often they ride their luck and teams either fluff their chances or Mendy bales them out. Out of us and dippers they are definitely 3rd on quality.

Their in game luck reminds me of the Dippers in their title winning season. I’m not sure it will last like the dippers though as VAR took over whenever it wasn’t happening organically and whilst the premier league would definitely rather Chelsea win it ahead of our 4th title in 5 years.. that is more due to portraying the league as competitive rather than backing the Gravy train like they do with the Dippers and Rags.

see.. penalty awarded.
Chelsea's disadvantage is they are in a title race with the Dippers who will always get preferential treatment over both us and them. When they had the dubious Conte and only had Spurs and us as challengers they got all the reffing they needed. Tuchel doesn't have those connections nor are Chelsea the favoured sons in the title race whilst Salah is carrying the Dippers along.

This is what I've said this season, relying almost entirely on your defenders or penalties for goals is just not sustainable. Eventually teams will wise up and start actually marking these guys properly.

They actually remind me of Liverpool in the first half of 18/19. Not 100% up front but bailed out by an extremely overperforming defence.

Something Liverpool did well that season is come New Year's once their defence inevitably went back to normal, their attack suddenly started bailing them out instead. Hopefully Chelsea aren't the same.

Made the same argument in the Chelsea thread, us relying on attacking midfielders to score is sustainable, relying on defenders to score isn't (although they're making a good go of it).
