Good points. I think Lampard though was aided significantly by Drogbas presence. Lampard was superb at arriving late with the cb already deep. Still would have scored loads thoughI think the number 9 in football is on its last legs. Ever since the false 9 was invented, when you have a great false 9, the cohesion and fluidity it allows can be more effective than having a 30 goal a season striker.
A 50 goal a season striker, however, there will always be room for.
I wonder how Lampard would have done as a false 9 in a Pep team. My guess is he’d have scored hundreds of goals.
