The Premier League give away 1 BILLION pounds and there are still people moaning. This country is brilliant, you can't make it up.

It's because it's bollocks.

The figure, the "giving it away", the commitment, everything. It's PR bullshit that doesn't mean anything and promises even less.

Is it monopoly money they are "giving away" then? Or still real pounds sterling?

A very apt term but not I suspect in the context you meant it.

£50m is a nothing figure to be honest. Each club will give £16m a year.

That £16m will cover ALL grass-roots facilities, participation, fan engagement, solidarity payments to the lower leagues and supporting disadvantaged groups as well as the Living Wage commitment. Most of it will go on solidarity payments and this was a planned rise.

The PL, as ever, is great at PR

its a joke. the premier league are basically laughing there heads off and rolling in money yet they are trying to make themselves out as the saviours of grass roots football when in reality its nothing. Greed is gonna kill football in this country one day.

What really annoys me is that they're heralding it as though as it's a great thing. But they're not even bothering to keep pace with the increase of income. To qoute BBC: "Donations have risen 40% from £700m, despite the TV rights going up by 70% from £3bn".

That's fucking disgraceful. At least offer the same percentage, not keep more for yourself.

And to the person who said they wished they pushed through the B team agenda in exchange for this marginal increase, you need your head checked mate. Football as we know it is dying.
What total bollocks.

B Teams work in Spain and Germany and last I looked, their national team had done ok at recent tournaments.

As for the payments increasing 40% not 70%. Well yes, it is a Premier League deal after all for fucks sake.

As someone else said, moan moan fucking moan. The sense of entitlement is sickening.

The Premier League don't have to give up any money but will contribute £1 billion pounds to non Premiership funding. What have the FA or the Government done to match that other than moan and point fingers.

What do you suggest the PL should have done and why are they responsible for funding the future of English football? The amount of money the FA wastes is ridiculous and the Government doesn't want to commit anything to help but yet again it's the Premier League's fault.

The Premier League is far from perfect but people need to look in other directions for Football's ills sometimes. Let's not forget that our owners are part of the PL and have contributed vast sums of money to the community. It's about time they got some credit as Scudamore correctly points out.

Every time Greg Dyke has a pop at the PL he is diverting attention away from the FAs own shortcomings. Don't fall for the little rag's tricks.
Spot on. Does anyone really believe that the recipients of "only" a 40% increase are complaining?

It's not entitlement, it's asking the Premier League to stick to their agreements which to people fuzzy on the history looks like entitlement.

Before the PL, TV revenue was shared between all of the leagues with the First Division getting 50% the Second Division getting 25% then 12.5% and 12.5% for the Third and Fourth. This was how English football was structured and how grassroots commitments were paid for.

When the dickhead rag, scouse and cockney Chairman all got greedy and decided that they were going to setup a new league where the Premier League gets 100% of the TV revenue, the FA initially denied it because they understood that grassroots funding would disappear. Due to this the PL then came back with a plan where it would appropriate a certain amount of its revenues into grassroots and other outreach. This was a key condition for the FA in the first place and without the commitment the league wouldn't even exist.

Now let's go back to impressive sounding one billion figure. Firstly the vast VAST majority of that is parachute payments. These payments are designed firstly to help the Premier League to stop clubs going bankrupt every time they got relegated and to increase the competitiveness of the league by bridging the gulf between it and the Championship. Again, something that they certainly aren't doing by choice but by necessity.

The current "grassroots funding" done by the PL is 3% or £30m. Another impressive sounding figure until you realise that that is over 3 years and in the last accounts they gave £21m. So this massive increase is £9m extra over 3 years or an extra £3m a year to a grand total of £10m a year. Whoopie fucking do. And for this £10m a year grassroots funding they get to shaft every other club in the country out of any collective revenue agreements, wreck the competitiveness of the English football pyramid and have a bunch of people who don't know much about this praise them for their generous and charitable spirit.

The total grassroots funding in England at the moment is about £40m a year from the Football Foundation, of which £7m comes from the Premier League and the rest comes from the FA and the Government. That's the actual truth about it - out of this massive ONE BILLION package, about an extra £3m a year goes to grassroots development or about the wage of one single player for one single year at a top six club. Somehow if that was the headline I don't believe that many on here would be defending them.
