Premium bonds

£25 for me, £350 for my partner, both with max holding.

Cash ISA rates are around 4%, so you're looking at £300 PCM to break even
As a matter of interest do you know how much your PB investments return in a 12 month rolling period?
Yes we are doing ok at the moment as I got a £1000 win in November so our rolling return is just over 4% personally I would pull £40k out and use this years isa allowance but she likes the bonds and not worth trying to convince her, just get the but we could win £1m reply.

It’s not an investment though is it?
It’s somewhere to park spare dosh that can get tax free winnings once all your tax free savings avenues like ISAs are used up.

I took our max holding out a couple of months ago and took a cash isa for a year.. I was getting sick of the disappointment but it makes you realise that you enjoyed the buzz when you get the daily paltry isa interest message…

Once the year is up we might give them another go

We only have £500 each atm so it’s not even worth checking the app

Absolute last option after using up any Pension, ISA or General Investment Account (CGT or dividend allowances).

The return for Premium bonds is an average of 3.8% from July (currently 3.4%), but because averages are really only useful with symmetrical distributions, the actual return will be less for most people.

I guess ultimately it depends on what you want for your money, if you treat it as a bit of fun, but realise each year you dont win more than whatever the rate of inflation is, your money is eroded, then fine. If you treat it as any form of investment then you're on a hiding to nothing.

Wise words-as always. £25 here, nothing for the Mrs.
