President Trump

Do we really have free speech though? Seems you can’t say or do anything now without it being a crime!

Free speech to him means having the ability to lie, misrepresent and use social media for nefarious means without being called out on it.

Further than that, using social media for attempting to incite violence based on creed or colour should certainly be against the law in any civilised country.

Doesn't matter what colour they are, or what God they purport to worship, they should be brought to heel.

What is it that you want to say that you can’t?

I say shit all the time, some wacky shit at as I’m musing. But I’ve never had to curtail that speech over here.

Then again, I do curtail my thoughts when I’m with my US colleagues. Learnt early on that they don’t like you going against their thoughts.

I legitimately feel sorry for Starmer having to be in the same room as these cretins. You can see how uncomfortable he is.
It must be a minefield dealing with a president with such a massive ego and such a thin skin publicly.

Trump gets a state visit announcement and because everything's about him that soothes the ego and make's him reasonably congenial. Good diplomacy I'd say.

I'm sure more straightforward talking was done away from the gaze of the press though.

We do and don't have free speech but that's based upon the fact that you can say anything however it depends upon how/where you say it. Almost everything that the far-right has a problem with for example isn't actually free speech, it's antagonistic and borderline hate speech. That's potentially okay in isolation but that never happens does it?

What they want to call free speech is the equivalent of going to Old Trafford and standing outside and calling all United fans shithouses. At some point you will get moved, smacked in the face, arrested or a riot will start. The Police therefore have a duty to kerb that kind of free speech.

This is amplified further on social media because social media is never isolated and is always the equivalent of shouting in the middle of a city.

This did lead to riots last year however it wouldn't have led to riots if somebody mumbled it down the pub where you could say anything and nobody would care. The fact that nobody would care in that situation is why they choose a louder place to do it because it's not actually about free speech, it's about stirring the pot.

The entire point of X nowadays is not free speech, it's a home for political lunatics and Vance wants to protect that because it's what has given the current administration its power.
