President Trump

Canada is a commonwealth country with King Charles as Head of State. I could see British, Australian troops and possibly Indian troops being stationed in Canada as a show of solidarity and to act as a tripwire.

The UK could not it sit out if there are hostile moves against Canada.
And fight a war with Russia simultaneously?

Absolute fucking ****
That's a massive understatement. He is worse than that. Dickhead, twat, knobhead, nonce. Am sure there are plenty of other words to describe him that are unpleasant. Maybe some people on here who are better wordsmith than me would be far more eloquent in their description of the shit gibbon that don't include swear words. Words fail me to be able to really show the depth of hate I have for this disgusting fucker.

Around 8pm Eastern Time (1am UK), Trump will be making a speech to Congress outlining the case for his sweeping domestic and foreign policy plans. This could be a defining moment and a phase-shift in geopolitics.

Things could get very ugly.
Russia Russia Russia...Zelenskyy should never have let Russia invade....Governor Trudeau....We're being robbed by Canada and Mexico....Groceries; I made that word up.....Hunters laptop....Goodnight

And fight a war with Russia simultaneously?

Any conflict with Russia will involve a coalition of European countries. Poland, France and Italy have substantial military forces and in three years Russia has yet to subdue Ukraine fighting by itself without any country fighting alongside it.

I am not saying any of this will come to pass, just outlining the relative strengths and options.

I was a Brexiteer and wanted out the EU, was thinking of voting reform and even sided with Trump on a few of his policies, but within 2 months him and his whole MAGA cronies have completely 180 degree turned me.

This Vance comment on us being a random country that hasn't fought a war in 30 years is probably the final nail in the coffin on any potential relationship with the US.

I think Britain has no alternative but to look towards Europe right now because this administration doesn't seem to care one single iota about us or Europe.

I think if these sentiments of change have happened with me, it will be happening across the country also with people of similar thinking.

I think with our language differences etc it's easy to forget how much as Europeans we have in common compared to the rest of the world. The values that we are now talking about defending were forged within our continent. Europe is the home of the Renaissance, The Scientific Revolution, the Age of Enlightenment and the Industrial revolution all of which have indelibly shaped us as Europeans irrespective of our nationalities. Our 20th Century history left us battered and scarred and arguably lacking confidence; certainly in the UK in the latter part of the 20th Century we got sucked into an American led trajectory that has left too many people behind and arguably sowed the seeds that have led to this moment. American leadership of what we like to call 'the free world' appears to have failed us, so what happens now?

The nations of the EU and the UK together are home to over half a billion people with a rich history and an incredible breadth of talent. In many ways our diversity is our strength. But it also becomes our Achilles heel when we let division take hold. So far the politicians are doing a reasonable job of presenting a united front. If, and it's a bloody big if, as things become more challenging we can maintain unity across the majority of Europe and speak with one voice and act in concert we will be ok and eventually better days will come. We Europeans are like a squabbling family and if ever there was a time to put those, in the scheme of things, petty squabbles to one side it is now. As electorates we have our part to play too, this is going to get worse before it gets better and there will be plenty of opportunists come along with quick fixes, easy answers and seemingly ways to avoid the pain; many of these will be either deliberately or unwittingly doing Russia's bidding as part of its hybrid war. We need to avoid being seduced by these charlatans and not forget the hard learnt lessons of our recent past.
