President Trump

Does that translate as pretentious ****?
Not so much, but hypocritical. Same as that garden party during COVID that happened over there. Especially given how aggressive the state was on lockdowns here. A guy who doesn't understand how that looks right off the top has judgment issues, not to mention the upper-crust nature of the venue where it happened.

That said, he's a pragmatist (as all ex-mayors of San Francisco have been and must be to navigate the quite-frankly insane Board of Supervisors) and intellectually sharp. But how he could possibly win crossover voters/independents vs. Trump is beyond me. Biden has the best chance because he can lever his accomplishments and always has the bully pulpit in whatever form he chooses to utiliz(s)e as the incumbent. Do not discount the resources and the power of the President in office when campaigning starts in earnest.

Reagan came in after America felt utterly denuded, impotent and out of control. Losing Vietnam, Watergate, inflation, an aggressive Fed jacking rates, recession, the energy crisis (being held to ransom figuratively) and then the Iran hostage drama (being held to ransom literally). Carter was the best of men, but woefully ineffective. So Reagan wrapping himself in the flag was 1) honestly how he felt, 2) necessary in his mind politically to win and 3) an attempt to shift confidence levels in the future. History has been kind to Reagan’s first term; less his second (he delegated too much domestic policy to idiots and then there was Iran-Contra which he was too naive to prevent). So I look at his jingoism vs Trump’s fascism as very different. In many ways Reagan really was selflessly devoted to America — maybe more so than any President since, though that’s arguable. And certainly he birthed an awful lot of serious issues later — especially from a trickle-down laissez-faire economic perspective — but in many ways I think that’s due to his naïveté rather than him being sinister.
Reagan was a far more decent human being than Trump. Not even close.

100 percent. You could disagree with his ideology or policies but he thought of governing as service. Was he manipulatable and a naive shill for some? Yes. But did he in his own mind have the best interests of what he viewed as the nation and its people top of mind? Yes.

Why do media cater to this ****.

Just seen a clip on CNN defaming E Jean Carroll calling her a racist and branding her a bit of slag. Although he has never met her.

The woman interviewing him hasn't interjected once to call him out whilst his fans laugh with him.

It was embarrassing television.

Currently he's acting like a **** in court and daring the judge to boot him out so he can claim they are biased and have the case shut down.

How is this behaviour being allowed?

He would absolutely LOVE it.

Cult members would lap it up and his team would be fundraising off it the moment the cuffs went on.

There would be violent protests up and down the country before the night was out.
Maybe the boil needs lancing.

This seems to be his only play. Show contempt and ignore the consequences.

He's done the exact same in the civil fraud trial.

But he can't do it in the criminal trial? Or does he. Maybe he's gone all in on some kind of break down of the justice system.
He's broken their political system. Like any good fascist it's time to destroy the criminal one and only one man will be able to fix it....

100% agree. Letting him behave like this because of fears of mistrials or the threat of civil unrest is akin to negotiating with terrorists. If he hadn’t been handled with kid gloves his entire life then things might not have gotten this far.

If people want to start problems over the rule of law being upheld then that’s on them. I have a feeling they won’t because if there’s anything I’ve learnt about the MAGA crowd it’s that they are actually massive fucking cowards when it comes to actually putting your nuts on the table. There’s a small handful of truly unhinged gun-toting psychos, and the rest are just middle-aged men who moan about everything new in the world but in reality couldn’t vault a bicycle stand without their angina flaring up.

Appeasement never works. Throw the **** in the brig.
