So the ceasefire is basically the war carrying on without the USA, albeit at a much lower level.

It really does look like Trump just decided he'd had enough.

He's a fundamentalist who in January 2021, Hegseth was sent home from a mission to secure President Joe Biden's inauguration. A fellow National Guard member raised concerns that the "Deus Vult" tattoo violated the Army's policy against tattoos with extremist associations.

The army deemed him to be dangerous enough to be stood down from his duties at Biden's inauguration; Trump made him Secretary of Defense. Yeah, that makes sense.
