Requires a 2/3 majority vote in the House and Senate, so unlikely to be voted through, but not impossible.

Don't rule out him engineering some situation where the government declares a state of emergency allowing the use of 'special powers' to effect a law change without the requirement to vote. If there's a loophole in the law, he'll find it.

His last tax cuts added trillions of dollars to the national debt, and are set to expire. Of course, as with the Bush cuts previously, this is now being touted as “the biggest tax INCREASE in history” if it is allowed to expire…as intended when the law was written and agreed to be a slim majority.

Once again, Republicans fleeced Democrats on taxes, because Americans hate them and nobody can be seen to be in favor of them…even though they pay for the livelihoods of about half the country (WAG).

America is a semi-socialist state that loves to declare itself the free-market capital of the world. Well, that works for the sliver at the top, most of whom don’t work for a wage and whose generational wealth and use of a warped tax code has insulated them from anything “the average American” has to endure.

In many respects, the “simplification” of the tax code for ordinary Americans was a good thing. However, the cost of that change was to leave all the “rich guy” tax breaks for which accountants and multiple schedules are needed, while removing the deductions that many, many millions of Americans relied to save them a few bucks on their taxes.

Americans, in general, have a problem with taxes because we have been conditioned to believe the vast majority of the money goes to waste, fraud, abuse and lazy fuckers who need to work harder for a living instead of living off the government! Sure, there’s some of that, as everywhere, but that’s just part of the FUD program that is ever present around government spending.

I’m a regular old wage earner with a good income but without any real deductions. I don’t own a business and in my 60’s I’m an aggressive saver for my impending retirement (as required by law). I pay an OBSCENE amount of FEDERAL taxes because I don’t have all these corporate shells and can’t leverage the underlying tax breaks in the code, most of which are lobbied for by the mega-rich and big business.

In addition, I pay an exorbitant amount of State Income taxes, in addition to exorbitant property taxes on my relatively modest home. The funny thing is, it is often the ultra-rich that quietly insert all their tax breaks into the tax code, while it is those that ACTUALLY LIVE OFF THE GOVT TEAT that complain about Govt, taxes, and spongers!! They all claim to want “Govt out of my business!” when, in fact, without Govt in their business, they’d often be destitute and on the streets!

America, it is sad to say, has a massive population of people who feel like they’re “rugged individualists,” who don’t need the government and distrust it with a passion, because they think it somehow wants to
Impinge on their freedumb. What they fail to recognize is that government is often the only thing keeping their head above water…with my income taxes!!

It a funny old place, but with Trump as the Head Barker, the carnival just keeps on rolling. One thing the right wing is brilliant at is highlighting an issue and convincing you of your position on it, so they can forward their own agenda, even when it is counter to your own interests. Fucking masters at it!!!

They make proclamations that are completely false, but stick to the narrative like a lion with a gazelle! These then become “facts” because they’re repeated so often they must be right! Trump’s probably the first President who couldn’t care less what the real truth was, because the truth was what he said it was to millions and millions of his flock!

Trump literally signed the last tax cuts, walked into Mar-A-Lago and told the millionaires and billionaires assembled that he had just saved them more money than they could ever imagine…while touting the tax cuts as a great thing for the poor guy in Appalachia who probably saved $50, if he was lucky!

You see, American politics has stopped being about what is true, or what is “right,” and has become what you can get away with and still make people believe they won…all wrapped up in a big patriotic flag to make you think it’s all about “America!”

Reagan started it in the modern era with the shining city on the hill and Republicans have run with the “We love America!” and “We are the patriots” tropes ever since!

Democrats are just trying to social engineer you into believing things that are woke and that the Bible thinks are evil, whereas Republicans have a deep seated, unbreakable love of God and country that cannot, and will not, ever be allowed to be overcome by the socialists who want to control you, your money, your guns, and remove Christianity from the face of the earth!

And here we are…wagging the dog.

Can I ask how you save for your taxes? I’m assuming you do a tax return and get a bill, but how do you even go about saving on the side to pay that bill, obviously in the uk ours is taken at source mostly so I’ve never had to fill one out.
 
2/3rds of each chamber and 3/4 of the state legislatures. It will never happen.

State department halts all new aid funding after Trump order​

The state department has ordered a halt to funding for almost all aid programs, citing an executive order Donald Trump signed on Monday, the Associated Press reports.

Only aid to Israel and humanitarian food crises are excluded under the policy, with all other US aid programs told to keep running only until they exhaust the funding they currently have.

Here’s more, from the AP:

The sweeping order threatened a quick halt to countless projects globally aiding health, education, development, job training and other efforts by the United States, the largest provider of foreign aid. It appears to begin enforcement of a pledge to eliminate aid programs that President Donald Trump judges not to be in U.S. interests.

The order — sent in a cable to U.S. embassies worldwide and obtained by The Associated Press — prohibits new government spending, which appears to limit programs to running only as long as they have cash on hand.

Some leading aid organizations on Friday were interpreting the directive as an immediate stop-work order for U.S.-funded aid work globally, a senior aid organization official said. Many would likely cease operations immediately so as not to incur more costs, the official said.
