I'm not in favour of people keying people's cars or burning showrooms, but I also hate the hyperbole of saying that putting a funny sticker on someone's car is 'criminal damage.' It's like those people who shout that they're being assaulted because someone lightly touched them during an argument.

Having said all that, we can't judge the French on normal protesting standards. They'll burn cars if the price of a baguette goes up by 10 cents.

Sorry, but “putting a funny sticker on someone’s car” is property damage. Property damage is a criminal offense. Ergo, it’s criminal damage.

The mentality I don’t understand is “Why does anyone think it’s OK to mess with other people’s property?”

It isn’t!

While I agree, there are degrees of offense, that’s what the courts are for.

Don’t touch me or my stuff and I won’t touch you and your stuff. Simple.

Now, once you cross that line, who gets to determine degrees? Not much, too much? Not hard, too hard?

Boycotting isn’t a physical protest either.

99.9% of people not buying Tesla’s out of principle are not leaving their houses to protest.

As ever, you have the extremist, anarchic types that want to blow shit up, but they are in the vast minority.

Completely agree. I would have no way of knowing if people were boycotting Tesla by not buying one unless the sales data were not so damning, just as I wouldn’t know Tesla dealers were being physically protested or vandalized if it hadn’t been on the news.

None of that is happening in my world or in my interactions with it…yet!

As a general rule, I’m all in favor of civil protest but against violent protest. That doesn’t mean people should not stand up for themselves when needed, only that it is very rarely needed or warranted.
