Press Conference 01/07 [Merged]

I thought Hughes was quite clever actually in the press conference. To paraphrase he said that deals for the likes of Tevez and Eto'o are complex and that they can become frustrating owing to the amount of time it takes, but if City feel it's not going to happen, they will walk away.

My thoughts on that are that we are obviously still negotiating for the 2 players but in saying what he did, it's a clear message that we won't be held to ransom and it's a message for said players (and agents and selling clubs) not to take the piss as we can and will pull the plug.

Especially if they bottle it, presumably.

Would that be as opposed to all those clubs who come out and say "Yeah, we want this player and we will pay whatever anyone wants to rip us off for. Come and mug us"?

I keep hearing this 'City are being clever - won't be ripped off' line coming from fans and out of the club but they are acting no differently than virtually every other club in the world. They all say that they won't get ripped off and will walk away if necesary.

The only difference , given the situation that City are in, is that when most clubs say they refuse to get ripped off they mean it as they can't afford to - they don't have a lot of money.

When City say it it is basically just piss and wind because anyone with half a brain knows that City are going to pay and extra premium for players (to the selling club and the player themselves) they are in for. Just like Chelsea did and just like Madrid have. That's what happens with super rich clubs. Especially given that City have not got Champions League football to offer. If City really want a player they be asked for more than others and they will, very likely, pay it

So I am getting a bit sick of people banging on about how clever City are when they say stuff like this and how it shows that they are the shrewdest people in the history of the world ever. It's exactly the same as every other club says. It ain't fecking rocket science.

£17m for De Jong, anyone?

I'm not saying that City are wrong to pay a bit over the top for players. They should, it's the only way we'll get them. Just quit with the "Look, look, we are so clever and such tough negotiators" rubbish every time the manager or the chief exec comes out with "we won't be ripped off" quotes that comes straigth from the first page of the 'Football transfer quotes for dummies' handbook.

No I didn't actually mean that exactly. What I meant was exactly what I said, that people shouldn't take the piss. Nothing more nothing less. i.e not writing 7 paragraphs when what I meant was in one line.
