Priced out?

There have been documentaries made on how the music industry rips the public off.

Plus it’s not just City fans moaning about City, it’s all fans moaning about all clubs and we are uniting over it. City are just 1/20 of the problem but our club is a problem. Wednesday night’s pathetic attendance showed that. Kids all over this city have never set foot inside the Etihad despite being massive Blues. That’s fucking wrong, if you think it isn’t you’re just part of the problem.
No City are not just 1/20th of the problem, there are many more leagues than the Premier League (or whatever it is called this week) the lower leagues will find the prices filtering down(Up) in the coming months and years so let's not be elitist let's also remember the lower leagues and the money it costs them. How many have gone out of business?

Sorry, not getting at anyone just trying to expand the thoughts because football is our national sport (in my mind) and we don't want it taken over by the elite and therefore ruining the lower leagues. :-)

Listen, you were the one who went in personal off the bat, so don't complain just because I gave some back. Then you resort to name calling. That says more about you than me tbh.

I have an opinion, you have an opinion, I think mine is right, you don't. That's fine.

Nobody attacked you precious. I read your post and it was full of sanctimonious crap, so I pointed out that attitudes like yours are part of the problem why fans are getting fleeced but you are too blind to see it. I was right. This is just one small part of your post.

"Life is about priorities, one of my priorities is my beloved club, so if I need to make some financial sacrifices to watch them, so be it."

So what happens when you've made all the sacrifices, cut all the corners but the club raise the prices yet again? Do you then cut your food bill down, turn off your heating for a few more hours, don't buy a new pair of much needed shoes? If you do, will you then be able to afford the latest price increase? If so well done, you can continue going to the game. You're now at your absolute limit financially though with no wriggle room whatsoever. Then the club announce yet another price increase. Now you're fucked. Do you see it now? That's the reality a lot of our loyal fanbase are facing right now and the reason many who used to go in the past no longer attend.

Average prices are now £60-80. If I didn't have a season ticket I wouldn't pay it out of principle. Loyalty goes both ways and at the moment it's all one way. Having a successful football team is no good if you can't afford to go and watch them.

Oh and you're still a cock.

Most people I know who moan about ticket prices are the same ones who will then happily go out and blow 150 quid on a pair of trainers, or 100 quid on a night down the pub, or pay sky 120 quid a month to watch rag and dipper ex players slate city.

Let's put this into perspective, if you were putting on a show or a concert and had to spend £100m's on sourcing and paying those starring in the show, would you then only charge the audience £20-30 to watch it? I suspect not. Most big music concerts cost way more than an average ticket at city and yet people pay for, and go to those without much complaint.

It riles me that our fans are moaning at our club about this. In terms of return on investment, we are the best rewarded fans on the planet in the last decade or so.

City are simply a product of the foundations laid by the red cartel, other historically greedy clubs, the PL, UEFA and FIFA. They created a system where to be successful you have to generate lots and lots of revenue. Our owners have added as much as they can, but got branded cheats for doing so. The only way to remain successful is to generate as much income from everywhere possible, including match day sales.

Protesting against the club just doesn't seem right. Yes, protest against the PL or other governing bodies, but why blame our own club for something much bigger than them.

The irony is, many of those who do go and spend their money on a game (and then complain about it) sit there in silence and don't support the club anyway, then blame the atmosphere on tourist fans.

The club don't need any of this shit right now, they have battles on and off the pitch to fight, without their own fans turning on them.
Thanks Ferran. You should post on here more often.

People like you are why football fans will continue to be fleeced. Fortunately more and more are starting to realise they're being taken for granted. Do you think people like Soriano sit there and say to themselves "Times are hard in the real world. Inflation is up. Our fans have to shell out for a lot of games these days, particularly those that follow us home and away. You know what? I'll freeze or even reduce some prices to help them out a bit".

I can tell you there are people at City who look at spreadsheets and work out how they can increase revenue per customer year-on-year. In just over 6 months time we'll be playing in the Club World Cup. That alone will bring in at least as much revenue as the tickets we sold this season (which will be £80m maximum).

Get your head out of your arse because, before long, it'll be you saying you're priced out.

As I said to him Colin he's too blind to see it. I was actually quite kind to him in that initial reply, even though he took it as an attack. We have a few amongst our fanbase with a similar attitude and these price increase discussions always draws them out. "I'm alright Jack, if you can't afford it don't go." Or "Cut out a night at the pub a week then" or some other smug claptrap. One day it will be them priced out and nobody will be left to give a fuck.

You're entitled to your opinion but your trainers analogy is complete and utter horseshit. Regular match-going fans attend 20, 30, 40, or more games a season. People don't go out and buy 20+ pairs of trainers every year FFS.

You're also falling into the trap of blaming the Cartel cunts for City increasing their ticket prices. That's a separate issue altogether. It's a total red herring. Given that ticket revenue only accounts for 10%-15% of the overall revenue of the club AND we've recently been posting record profits that dwarf the extra money ticket price increases have brought in, there's absolutely no need to keep increasing ticket prices. That argument would be the equivalent to United blaming their decision to scrap concessionary ticket prices for their members on the mounting legal fees for all the cases the Premier League have been involved in - in particular the one against us - where the costs will ultimately be shared between the member clubs, when in fact that's utter bullshit and what they're doing is just an exercise in monetising fans further even though there is no need to.

I'll also add that City aren't just exploiting the loyalty of the fans. They've also been exploiting Pep and the success we've had under him, taking that success for granted, and have been hiking up ticket prices even more as a result of that. Well, as we all know Pep won't be here forever and as we're seeing at the moment, as much as I love the bloke, success under Pep isn't always guaranteed and if we go on to have an ultimately iffy season, the club are going to have to seriously look at ticket prices with the new stand coming online next season.

Especially as we will be in one of the lower leagues shortly....

It was taken over by the elite years ago, you must have noticed.

Well, if a substantial amount of season ticket holders didn't attend the game, that would have a pretty big impact on the overall attendance, those tickets can't be snapped up.
Are they prepared to be out of pocket, Sell the ticket back to the club or sell it to a friend or family ect.

It's all a complete shit show what's happening, Very hard to put a finger on exactly the best thing to do to try and put a stop to ticket inflation.

If it is a case of a protest, People have to stick together it's either all or nothing which I just can't see happening unfortunately.

If I didn't have a season ticket no way would I pay these prices. 74 quid for the cheapest ticket for Everton and then 47 for kids. Absolutely fucking never! I'm a normal working class fan, I earn far more than a living wage but by no means on big money, yet I couldn't afford that, so how the fuck are the people on low wages in the surrounding areas going to be able to afford it ? We are sleep walking into a huge problem in alienating our core working class support in place of the new fans with the dollar, but who'll down tools the moment the bad times start.. then they'll be stands empty let alone a few seats. :(

Well yeah, large scale boycotts will require a vast amount of season ticket holders to 'lose' the cost of a game by not attending, and obviously that is a decision many will not want to take. But even large protests before or during the games will have much less of an impact then empty seats during a globally televised game that broadcasters are paying billions for.

So, as ever, ticket prices will increase, options for families will reduce, and more corporate/hospitality tickets made available.
