Prioritise Barcelona or Chelsea?

Barcelona is the more important match by a mile.

Don't need to play a complete reserve side vs Chelsea, just rest Kompany, Yaya, Negredo, Silva, Pants will play ahead of Hart anyway, maybe Clichy/Richards ahead of Zaba/Kolarov as there's not an awful lot to choose between them anyway.

With such a big game coming up in a few days time it may work in our favour to give some fringe players a last minute chance to play their way into starting contention.

Remember it would be the same "weakened" side that beat Bayern away.

Regardless of which competition we believe is more important, Pellers has made it clear on a couple of occasions that he will not prioritise the CL over domestic success. It's hard to imagine that the board would not have a preference for commercial reasons. Whether this comment was aimed at the media to take pressure off the team, or was his own personal take on things, I'm not too sure. He does seem to advocate the 'one game at a time' philosophy.

Barcelona comes before chelsea
Champions league < premier league
Premier league < fa cup

In that exact order

Definitely play the "reserves" against Chelsea and prioritise Barca, without a shadow of doubt.

We can't continue to play our strongest 11 through this run of games, no way whatsoever.

The C1C is our biggest chance of silverware at the moment and gets one monkey off our backs as we don't want to risk ending up potless.

Prem still the most important, for me, and I'd happily take humbling defeats in both FA and Chumps if it meant we secured the double of Prem and C1C.

All depends though on the injury situation, get our big guns all fit and we can do anyone.

What if we set out to draw with Chelsea? Just a thought, please don't hammer me >.<

I know it is against our style and would cause a replay at their place, but with people back from injury and fresh, I feel it would give us the best chance of remaining in the hunt for all 4.

I'm much happier about these fixtures with the likely availability of fernandinho. We can face Barca with confidence with him available, and maybe even more of the injured players. We can do Sunderland and Norwich without him if we get it right. Chelsea is not a disaster to lose with a weakened team, hell, we might even do a bayern away.

No doubt about this has to be Barcelona. Its the biggest game in our history !

CL Round of 16 vs Barcelona or FA Cup 5th round. Answer is very obvious.

Mourinho has such a huge squad that he is more than likely to use the likes of Cole, Schrulle, Ba in this game. They have to get game time and this is the only competition they can afford.

The club will prioritise barca because the club puts realism, commerce and reputation before pointless revenge.

Pointless? Fuck off. There is passion in football and if beating Chelsea is pointless, we should all take out subscriptions to text commentary and evaluate the potential PR value of engaging in any particular chant before making a noise.

I didn't say 'beating Chelsea' was pointless.

I said prioritising that as 'revenge' over the infinitely bigger picture of potentially beating Barcelona in the Champion fucking League would be pointless.

Context son. Priorities.

And in case you forgot, the OP's original question was about priorities.

I think we'll see a semi rotated team for Chelsea, with the best team against Barca. Makes sense as our semi rotated team wouldn't be hugely different from the one which played on Monday.
