Private number plates

Every single person I know or I've ever met with one of these has been an absolute knob. Proper look at me, this is my name, name on my car. Says a lot about them.

I have two.

Not really

Why’s that? I know you can’t put a newer reg plate on than the original date the car was manufactured but a personalised one there’s no issue at all
The rules around private plates say you cannot:
  • assign a number starting with ‘Q’ or ‘NIQ’
  • put a private number on a ‘Q’ registered vehicle
  • use a private number that makes a vehicle look newer than it is - for example, an ‘07’ registration number on a 2003 registered vehicle

Had a meeting with someone a few weeks ago and his business partner had a 4x4 which had the reg (or an approximation thereof) of D4NNY.

My man told me that Danny Dyer had turned up unsolicited at his business partner’s house about two years ago asking him to name his price, to which he said he wasn’t interested in selling. I’ve always quite liked Danny Dyer but it shows the sense of entitlement that fame can give rise to.

Never remotely appealed to me; there there loads of them round here, and they are mainly driven by absolute cunts.

Edit: just checked the photo I took to send to a mate called Danny. It wasn’t an approximation at all. That was the reg.

Saves me about 10 grand on list price every time I trade in. I’m happy to be a knob

I’ll try and explain in more simpler terms what I was meaning, some people will have a private plate that will make the car appear newer than what it is, I know that’s not the rules but it’s a simple simple scenario I’m trying to prove here

Here’s an example - you might have a say a 68 plate registered car and then have 99 CTY plate on it, then nobody knows that the said car is 7 year old do they?

Thats what I was meaning, not putting a 71 plate on a 68 plate car as i know that’s not allowed, I wasn’t saying it was

theres one near me that is C17Y AF which i quite like, if they are funny i can live with them

I know what you mean, but I can't go too overboard with my criticism as my (now dead) sister had one and she was a really nice person (well, she was to me :)

I just don't get it. If you've got a spare couple of hundred quid (or even a grand or more) that you don't know what to do with, just give it to a charity or something, or at least spend it on something that enhances your (or preferably somebody else's) life a little. A weird collection of letters and numbers on your car achieves absolutely nothing for anybody.

It's a "status symbol" that does nothing to make your life better or more enjoyable, and as you say, simply labels you as a **** to those around you.

Each to their own.
So a person works hard and saves a few quid to treat yourself on something that gives you pleasure but no, someone like you thinks they should give it to a charity because you don't like what they are buying with it.

Some people get pleasure from cars, others from holidays, others from watches etc. My daughter has just spent a small fortune on a handbag, personally I don't see it or in designer clothes but for her and the others that do I have no issue with them spending their hard earned on whatever gives them pleasure and would certainly not condemn them for their choice of purchases. Maybe you should try it.
