It's a good idea, in theory, but it doesn't change anything. You might get 10/20 etc people who attend games who are so respectable and well manared, but you put them together with another couple thousands fans and you've got them all screaming derogatory chants..it's only a bit of banter.
Football is lagging behind the rest of the world, because it seems other sports are more tolerant.
Rugby have a player who is openly gay, no problem there. The Irish sport hurling (massively popular in Ireland for those who don't know) has a player who is openly gay, America even got there ahead of us with a basketball player coming out.
It doesn't matter and it shouldn't matter, and if you seperate all these fans and just look at them in their normal lives, they probably don't have a problem with it, but it's typical with football, that people lose themselves in the crowd and just get behind whatever is being chanted.
For it to work, we need to be more civilised and act how we act outside in the real world.
Everyone will watch them on tv and go see movies with stars who are gay, but when it comes to football I don't think it'll ever be quickly accepted.
In Russia it is illegal to tell kids in Russia that gay people exist.
Things are going from bad to worse for gays in Russia, new laws are leading to more anti gay violence and hate crimes.
We need to show now more than ever that homophic chants, etc aren't ok. If players are gay, it's no big deal, that it would change nothing.
